I've been looking at hwy routes from Duluth because I'd prefer to drive rather than fly, rent a car, etc. Appears to be about 1200 miles. I'd also be willing to have a passenger part of the way if fairly along route. I'm also thinking about taking my dog along if I could work out kennel arrangements nearby to the retreat. Crossville appears to have several highly rates ones and not real far away so I could go and visit her at times. I'd welcome any ideas/comments on these thoughts.

Oh, that would be a long drive, especially by yourself. I've checked to see if there is a good kennel close by.

Definitely long so I would consider the travel distance as part of a vacation, breaking it into 3 days. Traveled a lot by car with my husband and our approach was to try to find at least one fun thing a day to do, even if it's small by others' standards: maybe a few miles off the direct route to visit a small local museum or a scenic natural area. Like small towns and avoiding big cities as much as possible and timing for lower traffic times if it's necessary go through them.

Crossville does have quite a few kennels as that area is a tourist location. Lots of Condo Rentals etc in that area because of the lakes and golf courses. We would love to have you.

Maybe me. We live in Tennessee, so I didn’t realize where this was.

What state? I would like to be on the "maybe list" if it's within driving distance for me. I've really missed doing this retreat.

~latifolia-- I have been on this board for years; I was in the original group that started retreats about 15 years ago. I've been rather MIA the last year or so due to family activities (I have 4 kids!) so don't recognize everyone. I pop in occasionally, but don't have time to browse posts to see everything/everyone. I am familiar with everyone else above, but your name is new to me.

Have you made many quilts? I would love to see some of your work. Do you have a particular style that you gravitate too?

Latifiolia, your quilts are so beautiful - traditional with a twist as they say? I don’t get to visit on this forum as often as I would like, but I’ve been around a long time and have only missed one or two retreats since we started them....how many years ago? We always have a great time and even get some sewing done in between the silliness. At present I am the Raffle Quilt chairman for one of my guilds. The past two weeks I’ve made over 250 flying geese units. I’m about ready for those geese to fly on out of my sewing room, lol! I hope you will plan to come to next year’s April retreat.

I've been talking to a friend about the retreat but before we can go further, she/I have a few questions or issues I'd like feedback on. First, it is my understanding that the use of the retreat center for retreat is $1500 divided by number of persons who are staying there. Is this correct? I understand that meals aren't included and would either be preparedr by group members (or we'd go out or order in) or purchased from the owner for $20/day, depending on what the group decides. When I thought of my friend I was thinking of her as being a travel companion because she has a son and his family living in Tennessee several hours east of Clarks Range and thought she might like to use the opportunity to arrange to visit them. She doesn't think her son can get time off of work so is thinking she'd like to join our retreat group at the Place of Grace. One issue is that she is not a quilter. She scrapbooks and makes cards so could use her table for that if others thought that was okay. She and I too would like to poke around the area, visiting towns and scenic places. She especially likes thrift stores and I also enjoy those somewhat and antique places as well as quilt shops so we might take off to visit my Addie at times or to goof off from quilting/quilting/crafting. We both understand if you feel that you'd like to keep the group to quilters (and understand that forum members have priority on attending) or even more serious quilters. than I.

Yes, the total price will be $1500 and divided by the number attending up to a maximum of 13. I will go out on a limb and say we will do our own cooking or eat out instead of paying for scheduled meals. For the past several years we have all brought coffee, snack/sandwich makings and made our own breakfast and lunch, then taken turns making dinner or just ate out. That has worked pretty well.

We have had non quilters join us in the past and it has not been a problem, and we all can use a break and change of scenery from time to time. I understand there are some nice quilt shops in the area. I always bring an extra machine and there will be plenty of strips to sew together if she wants to try her hand at sewing. Tim has found some nice hiking in the area and if he comes with me he will probably be gone most of the time.

We still have room for more, so check your calendars, please.

Looks like I might not be able to come in until Thursday, as I am supposed to be in Nashville until then for work.

We will save you a space and come when you can. Tim will have to be at work on Monday morning, so I'll have to leave on Sunday.

What fun this is turning out to be! I think the retreats started around 2006 or 2007 as my first time was 2008 and the next time was 2012. Even though my health isn't as though I could run any kind of race, it is now good enough to travel by vehicle and to stay where everything is on the main floor. Even my family perked up when I mentioned doing this. I'm even thinking about what mindless projects to take. lol

Wow, really looks and sounds like great fun! My sis and I are planning on going to the Spring AQS show in Paducah April 24th -27th but I will definitely watch for the next retreat. It would be so nice to take a whole week to just quilt without any work or family distractions, lol!

I can't make it to spring retreat the year but I know for sure that the first retreat was in the fall of 2007. The reason I'm certain is that my husband had died the previous spring and I bought a new SUV that summer and drove to NC with a couple of girlfriends. I left them in Raleigh visiting Carol's sister and went back there after retreat.

I just talked to my friend about coming to the retreat . Her husband will be home to take care of her kitty, Baby Girl, and she's got our travel dates entered into her calendar. Please move me to the "yes" list and also put my friend Paulette on that list too. With our winter starting early (below zero lows the other day and snow already on the ground), we're looking forward to a spring get away to warmer place.
