Double Beam advice needed

How can I make this double, cantilevered beam look like wooden beams? I’m concerned about adding too much weight since I don’t know how these beams are supported. I don’t know what products might work in this unique situation due to the odd angles etc. Feedback from experienced, knowledgeable people would be very appreciated.

Several ways. The most realistic will be expensive. Slices(1/4" to 1/2" thick) of a real beam are sawn off the corresponding sides/top/bottom bean and glued/nailed/screwed to the beams. Sawing would need to be done by a saw mill(could possibly be done on a portable saw mill).

That would make the beams look like a solid wood beam.

Other ways would be to use similar pieces from smaller pieces of wood and install like planks for a floor.

Using faux foam beams could work.

Thanks for your replay HandyMac. I thought of using foam beams but they don't come in long enough sections and I was worried about how a seam might look. Any idea about that? Also I wasn't sure if they could be cut at an angle or not. Do you have any experience with that? Lastly, I wonder how the end would be finished off over the hallway.

The dark foam can be seamed(scarf joints---cut at angles to match) quite easily. The secret is a magic marker. Use one to shade the edges of the cuts so the lighter foam does not show. I have never used medium or light colored foam beams.

No doubt, TFW, although we did not build this house. The builder did all kinds of creative things in this neighborhood. No two houses are alike! We enjoy seeing what's inside each other's homes.
