Need Redesign of Kitchen Space

We were affected by Hurricane Michael and our hardwood floors are going to be redone. My kitchen is very small and I would like for the space between my kitchen and den to "flow" beautifully and be able to seat my family at a table for 6 without it being so crowded. I have a contractor coming to tell me if I can take the bar out and keep the room structurally sound but I may have to leave a post of some kind. The wall behind my sofa is 68" and it will stay. The opening between it and the bar is 3 ft and 10 1/2 inches. The bar is 7 ft. 8 inches. I need ideas to make the room look great and be more serviceable. Thanks.
