Hardware suggestions for built ins.....please

I need help choosing hardware for Living room built ins. I have been looking for weeks and I’m spinning my wheels getting nowhere. Any suggestions appreciated.

One built in on each side of the fireplace. Two doors and two drawers that are 48” wide. the hinges are black and the metal screen material is dark but not black.

The other end of the room has another built in with 8 small drawers and two doors. I thought it might look good to use all knobs here. Black hinges again..same screen. It has the cover over it on the right. Thank you for ideas.

I have been looking at this in black with the polished nickel or brushed nickel base. Too much?

I bought one of each knob and pull I thought would work for my new house. One that I thought I would love just didn’t look right and I ended up with something completely different. So...my advice is to buy samples.

I know I should do that but I think my decision/ build fatigue has me so inert that I don’t even see possibilities. Other than the one I linked.

A forty eight inch drawer needs a 9 inch pull. The rest needs only knobs. I see the kitchen in the background. Repeat similar, and CHANGE the hinges. The dark screen material is irrelevant.

Would glass knobs work? I think they would be super cute and not really 'clash'. Super cute space.

Round. Black. Simple. Classic. Worthy of a living room but not a star. Iron would be the most casual, next would be flat black, then a satin or polished. I would not repeat the kitchen. You are so close!!!

I like the idea of glass knobs. Looking at the photos, my first thought was "be subtle!" The built ins are not the focal point of the room, and should not be accented too much.

Jan...I looked at large pulls ie; 9” or so. Everything looked so kitchen like. Really want something more furniture like. I know they are large drawers..larger than I expected. They should have been split. The Schaub Country pull is in the kitchen. It goes from 7” to 12”. Maybe I should carry it into this room.

Do you think the 7” would work in the dark color or antique nickel on the drawers?

I appreciate the suggestion but the hinges are staying. So I have to find something dark.

ILoveRed, ONce you get to a larger than 3-5 inch pull (needed for your overwidth drawers) and to get quality materials (not zinc, that are mostly junk) you would be close in expense for touch control conversion...granted with some other required wood repairs and paint, would add cost to the hardware, but just my opinion, so worth it!! Don;t match a formal area built-in with the kitchen or butlers pantry showing, looks so tract/builder grade home when everything matches, again JMHO

DLM...I thought black too. And found lots of knobs but the pulls that I found in black were all so harsh ( for lack of a better word) against the white. Can’t find anything that doesn’t feel too stark. Except maybe the Lew Dolins linked above, but then they are only 3” c to c so I was afraid they are too small.

Missi...where did you find that one? How big is it? Big enough for the drawers you think?

    MilRon Construction...you said

“you would be close in expense for touch control conversion...granted with some other required wood repairs and paint, would add cost to the hardware, but just my opinion, so worth it!”

please elaborate...I don’t understand. Forgive me.

Here are TWO CABINET / DRAWER PULL types you can purchase right here on Houzz. Iif you like them, they could work.

The FIRST is a horizontal pull type used for your 48" drawers. They will work & look better than knobs. [LINK to OIL RUBBED BRONZE - HORIZONTAL PULLS[(https://www.houzz.com/products/cosmas-4392-cabinet-pull-oil-rubbed-bronze-prvw-vr~24334552)

The SECOND is a KNOB in the same color: [KNOB PULL - OIL RUBBED BRONZE[(https://www.houzz.com/products/matching-cabinet-knob-and-drawer-pull-9985-8816-oil-rubbed-bronze-cabinet-kno-prvw-vr~17954328). These can be used on your cabinets in all rooms.

Let us know what you think! :)

I find black too harsh for white cabinets, too. IMO, a 'gunmetal' or titanium finish would look better.

The Amerock Wells would look nice, in the gun metal finish. But the longest one is 6 5/16" center to center so you would need to use 2 pulls per drawer.

Those are actually from Home Depot, but google Iron round pulls and look at the ones with backplates. I think those would be strong enough.

Cilantro...you know that one is not bad especially in the gunmetal finish. It initially would not have caught my eye because of the shiny finish. But the shape of the pull has a certain appeal. I might be able to see it in person this week since it’s Amerock. Thanks for the suggestion!

First -Love your space and choices! Really beautiful!! You've done a fabulous job!

I agree with maybe getting some samples, might be better visualizing. I'm one of those people that like to see things in person-lol!

I know a bit of black in a room can go a long way and too many handles or knobs tend to make things look busy and heavy handed. Could you do knobs on all the drawers as well? Two on the bigger drawers?

I actually like the porcelain one you posted! :)

Dark or oil rubbed metals will match your wood and screens. Just a thought. Good luck!

Red....we’ve been in 3 months and I still haven’t picked out hardware for our built-ins. They are open to the kitchen area but I wanted to do more furniture-like hardware for them (we have white cabs and our kitchen hardware has a dark gunmetal finish). One long pull looks kitcheny to me....so maybe two knobs or drop pulls on your long drawers.

If you do a search here on Houzz for “drop pulls”, you might find some interesting things. Also, believe it or not, Hobby Lobby has lots of knobs/pulls that are a bit different, interesting....and cheap. I purchased the knobs below through them for our powder room ($3.99...they actually went on sale for $1.99) and guest bath (not that you would do something similar for your built ins but just to show you what they have...they also have a bunch of porcelain and glass hardware).

Top knobs Brixton , Multiple dark finishes and sizes. I'd use 12 inch on the 48 drawers. I will add that Top Knobs is ANYTHING BUT junk. !!!

The porcelain knobs really appeal to me too. Love yours Nidnay. I think they will work on the small drawers and the doors on both builtins. But that leaves the morgue drawers.

The suggestions of the iron hardware sent me on a google search and these turned up. Kind of appealed to me, but are they too “heavy”.

Also saw that Nidnay is still waiting after several weeks/months to pick out builtin hardware. Maybe I need to backup and live with the tape for awhile. I just feel such pressure to get this room done since this is the tv room. Yes, the dreaded tv over the fireplace. We live in the middle of nowhere and I can’t put my hands on anything without ordereing samples. So tired of spending money, I just don’t want a bunch of samples I’m paying for and not using. Plus I just don’t know what I want samples, honestly. I guess I almost just want someone to tell me what to do at this point. Done with decisions.

Jan...typing while u were posting. Those are very nice. And I think I can see this one in person without ordering samples. I had Top Knobs in my last house and they were very nice. Thanks for the suggestion.

Kmg...I seriously thought about all knobs and wondered if I could get away with knobs on the drawers. This would be my first choice. Are the drawers too big for knobs? Would it look ridiculous?

found this Houzz pic of knobs that I absolutely love. It’s reached the point where products are impossible to identify in these pictures. If anyone recognizes this knob...that would be....Great.

Red.....r e l a x. Really, there is no rush. Seriously, if I had picked out what I thought I wanted way back when I chose my cabinets, I’m sure they would be completely different from what I will eventually end up with. I was so burnt out from three years of decision making (as well as building mistakes) that my brain just refused to cooperate and I came very close numerous times to just choosing anything because I was just so sick of the entire process. Personal opinion, but I think it’s better to wait.....move in and enjoy your home with no pressure to decide anything. Then when you get refreshed and have shaken off a lot of that building junk, you can actually enjoy picking things out with no time pressure. My great room built-ins still have blue tape on them for “handles”. Ask me if I care :)

^^^ yes yes yes. Knobs will not make or break your use and enjoyment of the room and you might have an a-ha moment about what you want once you have furniture in place. And if you don't....tape will work until you get your mojo back.

Red....hard to tell from you pic, but here is something similar.

You are both right. Deep breath....the house is driving me crazy. So many things..like the dishwasher x2 panels that are an inch too short on top. We are going to try to start moving in next week end (start) and none of the towel hooks are installed. The appliance co sold my ice maker that was paid for over a year ago. So many things that aren’t done. And I need to see my 92 yr old mom today.

Calgon, take me away. Thanks for the wise words. I’m going to stop.

Well, I said I was, lol. Nidnay...that looks very close. I think the one I like might be beefier and more black in the center and on the base.

See..you are just like me! Can’t give up on the quest can you ;-)

    thanks

I like your inspiration photo with the knobs! Very pretty.

I agree-breathe! :) It can wait when you have a fresher mind. Knobs are not important, mothers are :) Wish everyday, I could still see mine-

    All the best!

I think 1 3/4 is pretty beefy. Here’s the same sized knob (1 3/4) next to my kitchen knobs (which you can see are pretty averge sized)...it looks huge (although the projection might not be as great).

ILR, if it helps, the hardware I ordered from Lee Valley was backordered for about four months which meant we had completed kitchen cabs but no pulls lol. And blue tape that didn't hold up very well to hungry, impatient teen boys.

For me it would be important to know what the look of your living room will be.

The Long Island house knobs you like are white ceramic melon knobs. You can get the metal part in brass or silver usually. I have them on my daughter's Ikea dark brown vanity. I have blue and white floral ones in my pantry, laundry room, and on my bathroom vanity. I bought mine at Lowes in Canada last year, but I think you can find them all over the place, including Amazon. If you do decide on those, don't pay the overinflated prices at Anthro and do NOT overtighten them.

Nidnay..what a difference...the visual definitely illustrates the size difference. Yes, 1 3/4 is indeed beefy. Than you. That helped.

Becky...hardwarehut.com also has the Lews. If I decide to go that route I will try to find out what the lead time is first. 4 months is way too long. Two teen boys here too. At least it’s not a kitchen. Would love to see a pic of your Lews hardware installed.

will search for the porcelain pulls based on your search words. Thank you!

ILR, mine from Lee Valley were Armac Martin in the UK, which was part of the reason for the delay. I don't have my phone/camera at the moment (I share with my husband lol), but these are the cup pulls for the drawers below,

    http://www.leevalley.com/en/hardware/page.aspx?p=40257&cat=3,43520,43521,43561

and I think (I ordered both in store with a cup pull and knob I had removed from my then-current kitchen) these are the knobs,

    http://www.leevalley.com/en/hardware/page.aspx?p=40523&cat=3,46742,44005,50467

I have the same hardware on the built-in cupboards in our dining area just off the kitchen.

The funny thing is I didn't even remember what I had picked out 19 years earlier for the kitchen remodel in our old house, in part because I was eight months pregnant with #3, and #2 was 18 months old and #3 was three years old. But it turned out I wanted the exact same pulls, and fortunately Lee Valley still carried them, even if they didn't have enough in stock.

Yep...pregnancies and children that close together tend to make things cloudy, lol. But it shows that your taste remained the same.

just realized you were talking about Lee Valley and I was talking about Lew.

Anyway, nice hardware in your links.
