Obviously paint it. If it matches the white wall (whatever color you choose) the bump out will be much less obvious...then put various sized knick knacks, office supply holders or colorful kitchen items on the top edge. Serving bowls in different shapes and colors perhaps or pitchers, or baskets (you could hide/organize) supplies in those. Depending on how big the bump out is it could be disguised/covered with a potted plant or even a jug with cat tails or something tall, slender and ornamental like that.

A nice mural would help...and a different color for sure!

I think your bump-out is a great architectural feature in your "industrial" feel room . I would not mess up the clean lines with stuff. Just paint it another fun color of your liking.

I think paiting it white would make it appear like it was even more of a design mistake, painting grey could make the area feel too cold. Terracegallery might be on to something with the mural, or you large marble/stone pattern, wallpaper? It is probably easier to try and make it more a feature rather than hide it.

Whatever color you decide to paint the bump-out, how about adding a backsplash with a bit of the color? i.e., if you decided to keep the orange, use a backsplash with a bit of orange in it? Then, paint the island a coordinating color from the backsplash .. in this case, turquoise or green.
