I live in Florida and they grow in the ground in full, hot sun. They grow in sand.

I have only grown Cat Palms in pots so can't be very helpful.

However, I would suggest letting it dry out between watering. Don't over fertilize this time of year. Make sure whatever fertilizer you use contains micro-nutrients.

You never mentioned where you live nor your growing conditions. Is your plant exposed to central heating? What exposure is your window?

what does the pot, soil look like? have you seen it grow?

It's regular potting soil, mixed with some sand and perlite. Pot is a self watering pot, with drainage holes in the bottom that lead to a tray which will get sucked back up.
