I heard it was actually a percentage of *the difference* between the original offer and the final settlement, meaning, if they can’t negotiate more money for you, they get nothing.

Thanks so much! called a public adjuster today, so hopefully it helps and doesn’t end up just costing us 10% of the current appraisal. We have a replacement value policy.
