Think your house is adorable as it is. It is not awful. Doing some landscaping and fixing the front yard with sod would go a long way. Doing some flower boxes maybe or some nice large front porch lights may be nice too.

Cleaned the image up a bit landscaping wise. Personally I like it with shutters vs without. If you got some that close they would be a bit wider and the hardware makes them more dimensional so they look nicer. Add mulch with some small shrubs and flowers. If you don't actually use the bench with more than one person I would remove it. Doing some potted plants instead or maybe just one rocking chair with a side table? Maybe some one will come along with better skills to put some flowers in. And give some better ideas.

The bench was not a permanent fixture. Just had not gotten around to moving it. Ive not a clue where to get some shutters that close, although that does seem like a good idea. Im painting the trim to lighten it up a bit. Not sure if the shutters if I do keep them will remain black..I guess it would be the safest choice with the bright yellow I put on the door...I know the landscaping it the key here..just trying to figure that part out. Would like window boxes, but with my windows so low to the ground dont think theres a way to do that.. Also need a porch light as the current one is on the ceiling and you cant see it. Not sure what style would work there either. Thanks so much for your help and suggestions..

I LOVE the shutters! I like how they accent that your windows are so tall. Without the shutters windows may look a little too narrow for the width of your house. I think a color change may just make it feel more updated. Try Kendall Charcoal- Benjamin Moore or Urbane Bronze- Sherwin Williams. Both are brownish- Grayish. See pictures of urbane bronze. I also love a pop of color on the front door but the front porch disappears. I would add bronze or wooden pots with yellow flowers.

I like shutters. I would just do what you can to spruce the yard like mentioned in other comments
