"Fun" powder room

last modified: 7 years ago

Hello,

Because the powder room in my new townhouse is teeny, tiny, I wanted to make it really FUN by wallpapering it. It literally has a pedestal sink and mirror on one side and a toilet m the opposite side. My place is basically grays with pops of teal and orange. Love MCM but also the b/w look.

Considering one of the papers below. Any thoughts or other suggestions?

Sorry no pics... the camera wouldn't fit ;)

Thanks

You want FUN? This is FUN. ;-)

Teasing aside, I think your choices are fine but I'd be wary of the trellis one. Spoonflower has a huge selection of MCM wallpaper - most are staider than this print. :)

The powder room is a great room for "fun"!!! You're not in it all that much so you don't tire of it (try putting some of those papers in a regular bathroom and find out how long before you'd repaper) and quantity of paper needed is so much less that you can often get away with just a roll so you can spend $$$ on it! We did our downstairs bath in black -- black headboard 5 feet up and a monkey wallpaper with a black background and a chandelier with crystals. It was fun and lasted about 10 years which had it been in our real bath probably would not have lasted 10 months!

Ha! ha! True.. It is like 2x6.. Think it was initially a closet.

Also kind like this one and they have it is gold/white also

Thanks @Martha Scott. Sounds super cute

The "Circulate" is fun, but serene. I like the idea of fun, but worried that too bold of a design in such a small space will induce a seizure. The "Circulate" that you chose is sophisticated and, because of its muted palette, is calming, Plus, you can accessorize with towels to change colors with the season.

I like that hexagon one! I'd go for gold/white but it would depend on the hardware in the room.

ETA: Don't forget to consider removable wallpaper. Walls Need Love might not have MCM designs but you might find something up your alley in their geometrics.

The gold is really cool. The hardware is chrome but I am planning on bringing brass into my entryway which is just outside of this powder room. I like mixing metal colors. Yep def looking at removable paper.

Thank @Teresa Ccc.. I really like the circulate too.. Think it's narrowed down to that one, the hex and the diamond shaped.

imo, i believe you need help in the bathroom fun area, those are all very pastel and tame

I love bold powder rooms and I think you can do waaaay better than your first few. The rounded squares are getting there! I would push it to a MCM version of some of havingfun's pics.

no paper with a white background. The plumbing fixtures are white.

Like the geometric gray/silver cubes... but you might want to put wall paper only on the one wall without the door and without the plumbing for the toilet or sink.

If the toilet is beneath a window, window treatments are an opportunity for fun ideas. If not, you might want to create a shallow "built in" cabinet a half foot or so above the toilet tank rather than wallpapering that wall, especially if you have only a mirror above the pedestal sink rather than a cabinet for storage there. A cabinet above a toilet could have a faux window cabinet door, perhaps using frosted glass, perhaps lighting the interior of the over-the-toilet-tank cabinet with a cool LED light that could serve as a night light, too.

If you're changing the toilet, choose the middle height one rather than the older shorter style -- as you age, your achy joints will appreciate it.

In addition to the gray and white hexagon/geometric wallpaper, I also like the mural with the dock and dark walls. With really good lighting (and, if it is framed, a black frame for the mirror), even the black walls could work.

    Also like the white brick.

Also like the birds on the trees.

Also like the naked tree trunks.

Would really hesitate to go too bold -- too gaudy; too "busy" -- with wallpaper since it will be a real chore to remove it when, eventually, you're tired of it. Bold paint, however, can be covered fairly easily.

I second the height on the toilet, also don't squeeze it to much so you can put at least one bar if needed. remember most of wallpapers are removable.

Great advice: Thank you all so much.

Hunzi.... so cute. seems you did a theme you really love. That’s terrific

Thanks! Yes, the theme is champions - racehorses, baseball heros, other sports most with personal quotes. It's fun - people with sports or leadership backgrounds always come out saying "that's awesome!"
