I voted double oven since you said you didn't need the extra counter and cabinet space. It would be helpful if you posted a flat drawing with dimensions, though. I loved my double oven in my last house and can't wait to get one again in our upcoming reno. No, I didn't use the second oven that often but it was nice to have and I feel like I will use one more as my children get older and I start hosting holiday events versus going to my in-laws (MIL won't give up her domain without a fight...lol).

Is a dual fuel range not an option? We ended up choosing with a two oven unit 30” Samsung range, and the top, smaller oven is higher, so it alleviates some of the bending required when using a standard range oven.

Get an wall oven micro/convection combo. We just got one and it's fantastic.

Hands down double wall oven. Between having the space and a bad back, it’s a no brainer for me. IMHO/experience the double oven ranges are awful. I loathed the one the former owners had with the strength of a thousand suns. Detest is not a strong enough word. The top oven was useless and the bottom oven door opened to the floor - it was definitely not friendly for someone with a bad back. Or even someone who doesn’t have a bad back.

If we did the range oven it would be one of the double range oven but could have the issues HU mentioned. If we did get that double oven range we would get the GE Cafe one which is larger than any others I could find on the top oven.

If your back is a consideration, you might consider a French door oven. I didn't compare them at all; this one has a bunch of bells and whistles, which I would consider negatives -- and the price is pretty high.

Go to a store that has the double oven ranges on display so you can “test out” using them in person before committing to it and maybe finding out too late it isn’t such a great choice for you. Any Lowe’s, Home Depot or Best Buy should have at least one on the floor to look at and see if you would like it.

Good advice HU...that is actually what got us considering the double ovens in the first place. We did a bunch of shopping and just did love the double oven ranges then I opened a few double ovens which were so easy to open and move and that made us rethink our whole plan. The negative is that we told the builder no double oven, then said double oven, then went back to no double oven and they have made actual physical changes each time :/ they never completely finished one layout but it’s a hot hot mess. So if we go with the double oven that is changing yet again but would obviously be final.

What about a range with single oven and a single wall oven?

IMO a 30” range with 2 ovens both of which are useless IMO Go with a nice gas cooktop or induction and get double wall ovens if you have a bad back why choose anything you need to bend down to work with. Get fullsized double wall ovens I love my KA ones they are 11 yrs old and never an issue even with the temps staying true. I actually have a 36” all gas range too since I love bread and pizza done in a gas oven but certainly not a huge need for most people.

If you go with a wall oven(s) instead of a range, make sure you get an electric induction stove top, not a standard (radiant) electric stove. I'd vote for an induction range over a gas range, even if you choose to not get wall ovens.

As for a double oven? I chose instead to keep a full sized range oven, and get a second countertop oven (currently using a combo convection/steam countertop oven, but I'm still not sold on it vs. my previous Breville Smart Oven).

With respect to space concerns, I like the Samsung range oven because it gives you the option to use it as a full size oven or just the top smaller oven. I was originally planning on a double wall oven, until I realized I don’t use the oven that much, and when I do it’s to finish things off in the stove. What makes sense for one chef, will not for another. There is no right answer, just what works best for each person in their home for their cooking style.

It makes me laugh when i read these comments that ranges with double ovens are useless! Mine certainly is not lol. We previously had an old Maytag Gemini freestanding (controls up top) - i liked the range (hated the electric top though) and loved having two ovens. Top oven was small - but useful for lots of dishes and heated up SO fast. I loved having two ovens and used both quite a bit. I never cook my food on the floor of the bottom oven therefore i was never pulling things from the floor!

In our remodel I wanted an induction double oven range. We have the GE cafe slide in. The top oven is larger than our old one - I use it all the time. The bottom oven has a rack that locks in place and rolls very far out so you are not picking your food up from the floor. Dimensions of the lower oven are only 4” shorter than a standard range with single oven so you can certainly cook a turkey in it. You don’t have the storage/warming drawer so there’s still plenty of space for ovens. It’s great for how we use our oven and has never been an issue. Double ovens might be better but the range is pretty awesome too. So if you go that route you won’t be disappointed!
