MIELE; worst appliance I have ever bought.

Our Miele fridge has NEVER worked properly. We bought it 8 years ago and it didn't make ice for 3; in spite of paying for service. Servicing has been hit or miss.

The last service person stated point blank that the fridge had a sealed system fault that had never been addressed properly and that it was insured for 10 years. Miele offered us 2,500 off a new fridge; as if we'd want to go through Hell again with another one. This LEMON should have been replaced by Miele years ago.

SIL owns a Miele dishwasher and has gone through similar with that appliance. Neighbour 3 doors down has NOTHING but complaints about her Miele appliance as well; and the service people who fix nothing.

Miele also insists that they install their own appliances; they did ours on Christmas Eve; DAMAGED the new cabinets in my kitchen renovation and gouged my new hardwood floors. They paid for repairs; but NO ONE IN ANY POSITION OF POWER IN MEILE HAS ADDRESSED HOW BAD THIS APPLIANCE HAS BEEN OR WHAT THEY HAVE PUT US THROUGH!!!

We have been paying for bad repairs, buying ICE FOR 3 YEARS (and carrying it home when I have a handicapped parking sticker in my car; thanks very much) having new cabinetry repaired; or the sheer inconvenience of all the bloody appointments.

DON'T BUY MIELE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MIELE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THEIR INSTALLERS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!

THEIR REPAIR PEOPLE SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now it's Christmas again and we have a fridge that Miele refuses to fix properly that is going to crap out on us at the worst time of the year. The last time they called, they said WE would have to PAY THEM AGAIN to fix this LEMON.

I have NEVER OWNED AN APPLIANCE THIS BAD and I have lived in Europe with many German Appliances!!!

THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT MONEY. Miele has put our health at risk by selling us a faulty fridge. It endangers the life of myself and my husband and the 8 people who sit at our Christmas Table by letting our food spoil, the entire function of a working fridge is to keep our foods safe!!!!! All the instances of having to empty our fridge’s contents into a cooler with ice has ALSO been at our inconvenience, expense and peril. Not to mention, once again, how difficult this is with extreme joint issues!!!

You buy a fridge in good faith, expecting it to perform as a fridge. And you use Miele repair people, in good faith, expecting them to repair your fridge, on 14 separate occasions, and your fridge STILL does not work the way it should.

I want a working fridge. And in good faith, Miele should replace this one for all the wasted food, money, ice, money wasted on repairs that NEVER RESULTED in this fridge being dependable, ever. I want a fridge that works.

DON’T BUY MIELE.

Do you live in a state that has a lemon law? Three fixes of the same issue means the company must replace it.

Thanks for the heads-up. I truly don’t understand how a company will not replace a clearly defective product. My friend went through this with her Samsung fridge. It took over a year but a Samsung finally replaced it.

    Oh, please.

It's been 8 years?? Are you serious??

You should have accepted their $2500 offer. You have become so upset over this problem that you are becoming unstable. Read your post. Get a grip. It's an appliance, easily replaced. You are being ridiculous - you insist on keeping an appliance that you say will make you and your family ill. You are the one putting your family at risk. Get rid of the refrigerator and buy one that will guarantee to be perfect. Oh, BTW, there aren't any.

Stop! You're insulting Miele appliances. Most houzz commenters would rather have a Miele appliance than the crown jewels and would commit suicide before owning something manufactured by a company such as Whirlpool whose products are purchased only by the rubes.

I agree. Miele appliances and their (lack of ) service are not worth the headache. Buy Gaggenau. Buy Subzero. Buy something else. Miele appliances are great.... until they aren't.

I would never buy a Miele product. The cost of the appliance PLUS the parts when a breakdown occurs doesn't convey any perceived advantage to me. And there's no dealers or service in my area.

I found this list from Yale Appliances interesting. It tells you how many of a certain brand and how many service calls they received for that brand in the year. Scroll down a bit for the brand reliability rankings, as opposed to the most reliable appliance rankings:

3 Miele appliances with only excellent performance. But I think I'd go for a Liebherr Monolith frig.

Rita: Yale Appliances report is interesting. Looks like those fancy-pants appliances took a licking but didn't keep on ticking.

My dishwasher, washing machine and vacuum are all Miele. I installed the DW and dh did the washer. Miele didn't insist on doing it themselves. All appliances are excellent. Service is prompt, friendly and efficient. Same guy has come for years. Fridge is Neff as is small freezer. Other freezer is Liebherr. Again no trouble. I honestly don't understand why, if your fridge has been crap for 8 years, and it's driving you doolally, you don't just get another. 8-10 years is about their lifetime anyway.

    Reverse snobbery, indeed.

Miele vacuum cleaners range from $250 to a whopping $1500 on Amazon. For those prices, I'd not only expect the salesperson to demonstrate the vacuum cleaner, I'd expect him to come to my house and vacuum it!

FWIW I have two kitchens, one has a lot of Miele (dw, refrigerator, cso, warming drawer + wd, vacuum,) and one has a lot of Gagg (refrigerator, induction cooktop, ovens, cso, speed + Miele dw, wd, vacuum.) They are all three to five years old and they have all performed very well. I had a service call or two on the Gagg refrigerator that was noisy. Otherwise, all pretty flawless performers. I have a slight presence for the Gagg CSO.

Gaggenau Model RB472701 400 series Two-door bottom freezer with integrated ice maker: $8,800!!!

I'm sorry your fridge is giving you so much trouble. I'd move on and replace it. It's just not worth the aggravation.

I've had a top of the line Miele dishwasher and a bottom of the line vacuum cleaner. The DW was completely underwhelming but the vacuum has been decent. I would not buy Miele appliance again however - not a good value in my opinion. Maybe another vacuum.

Our Miele washer & dryer have been the absolute worst appliances we've ever owned. Dryer was replaced due to the high number of service calls and then the same with the washer. Replacements have been only marginally better. We should have stuck with Kenmore.

OTOH, our Miele Masterchef oven, warming drawer and DW have performed quite well.

Miele and its German Engineering are certainly not great nor perhaps even good but perhaps about average or slightly less overall. I'd certainly not buy them for reliability.

I probably would not take a Miele major appliance if they were giving them away. Expensive proprietary parts, no dealer, no service in my area. Probably not much on YouTube in the way of fix it yourself videos either.

The only snooty appliance that I own is a 10 YO Wolf gas rangetop. Quality that you can see and feel, no electronics and I know where Wolf lives...down the road about 100 miles from my house. 100% trouble free performance so far.

I ALMOST bought a Miele until my sister found out I was going to and warned me off it with her horror stories. So good luck with your Mieles.. As for me I will not be buying one. Apparently they are not of the quality and consistency they were in prior years.

I live in Ireland and have always bought Miele ... we paid 3 times standard price for our dishwasher. We were given usual Miele brand promise i.e it was going to last us 18 - 20 years... formula they use is 500 standard washes per year average. Ours broke down after 6.5 years ... according to formula we should have reached 3250 washes but technician informed us after checking diagnostics on machine that we had only reached 2450 washes. Then he told us we had to pay €650 for motor/pump replacement. I see in Australia Miele now offer 10 year warranty on all washing machines, dishwashers etc. This should be global. Staff at Milele service are awful. I am so disappointed in this brand. Bad things happen but its how companies deal with problems is the test of a great brand. Our Apple TV broke down after 2.5 years. Apple contacted us immediately, ran through a few possible fixes which didn't work, collected apple TV box and replaced within 2 days. WOW! 😞

@merrry: "I see in Australia Miele now offer 10 year warranty on all washing machines, dishwashers etc."

Nope. "All Miele domestic appliances come with a free 2-year parts and labour warranty. Miele will correct, free of charge, any defects in material or workmanship for a period of 2 years, subject to the terms of our Guarantee." -- miele.com.au

Why boast about your products lasting 20 years and only give a 2 year warranty like most other manufacturers? Here is the link ... https://www.mieleexperience.com.au/built-to-last-introducing-miele-australias-10-year-appliance-warranty/

@Merry Cee: And HERE's the text:

"...this September [2020] we will be introducing a Miele first for all of our dedicated customers. For the entire month, we will be offering a complete 10-year warranty

    "10-year warranty offer effective 1 – 30 September 2020."

Update ... Miele have been in contact and situation resolved! 👌

so @merrry does this mean your faith in Miele is restored and you would recommend their appliances and customer service? thanks

We recently bought a Miele refrigerator a few months ago. Perhaps a fluke or bad apple, but we are on our fifth service call in the few months we’ve owned it. Our situation is “no cool,” which means the refrigerator is unable to cool and basically doesn’t work, like take-your-life-in-your-hands-and-risk-food-poisoning doesn’t work.

Calls to Miele’s US customer service center have also been a disaster. When the unit first went in the fritz and we called, the earliest available appointment was 4 weeks out, yup, you read right, 4 weeks. When we asked if there was another repair provider in the vicinity, we were told that they’d have to cancel our appointment to check. Bonkers! Each visit turns up a new issue where the tech needs to order parts and then we have to wait for the parts to arrive, usually 5 business days. Then, oh joy, dealing with the service provider, who without fail, even though this latest repair has been an ongoing issue for the past month (3 service calls), states their earliest availability for a tech to come out is 4-5 weeks. And this is the super confusing part. They know there is an issue. The tech has ordered part(s). They know it’s an emergency situation as the refrigerator won’t cool, but each time, we’re told 4-5 weeks before a tech can be dispatched. So, we appeal (numerous calls) to the high-end appliance retailer who sold us this lemon, who intercedes on our behalf (yay)…and miraculously the service provider has an opening a few days later. It’s like a crisis merry go round. But the big head scratcher is that neither Miele customer service nor the service provider see this as an icky situation. They’re like what’s the problem.

Hubby (who is German) is like never again…
