Do the upstairs in whatever stain you want, but keep the stairs and railing the same as the downstairs hardwood. Make sure you're ready for dark hardwood though. It shows absolutely everything.

Thank you. Great point. They did repeat that color t/o the house. I cant stain dark brown on the first floor also because my cabinets are dark mahogany veneer on the sides. So I can’t repaint unless replace all cabinets:(

any recommendations for the kitchen wall anyone? the powder room was red too:(!

Be aware before you choose that it's very difficult to keep dark floors looking clean for more than 5 minutes, even after you've just cleaned them.
