I currently live in a house built sometime around 1924. My bedroom had been in desperate need of a makeover and I figured it was time to do something about it. One of the major changes I wanted to do was pull up my old, worn out carpet and have wood flooring in my bedroom. I pulled up the carpet and thankfully the original hardwood was still intact and in pretty good shape. The only downside was that it had been painted a brown color (WHY, OH WHY!).

So my first step was stripping the floors with a gel stripper. Then I rented a big orbital floor sander. I was able to sand the floors down pretty quickly without much trouble. After that, I went over the floor with my belt sander and little orbital sander to smooth out the floor. Following, I filled in the cracks, stained the floor, and put three coats of polyurethane. It was a lengthy process, sometimes repetitive, but it turned out great and even better than I expected, and they even look brand new.
