I'm in the middle of purchasing my first house, but we've run into some complications with the septic. When I had the house inspected, the septic failed the dye test. The inspector saw that the red-dyed water was rising up in a drain in the basement floor and seemingly not going into the septic tank. Concerned about flooding the basement, he stopped the flow of water earlier than he normally would have. The seller agreed to have a plumbing company come in and do a more comprehensive inspection to find if there was blockage or damage to the septic. The plumber said there was nothing wrong. At this point, I was ready to walk away because I was concerned that I was getting myself into a situation that could go wrong very quickly. The seller decided to have the plumber return and to have another house inspector come and do the dye test again, so I elected to wait and see once again. The inspection happened Wednesday, and the same thing happened with the dyed water. This inspector has put forth that this is normal and we're only seeing that water there because it's an overflow and such a large amount of water was being put through at one time, and that under normal circumstances, there would be no fear of actual flooding. I'm still concerned, as is my father, because the people who owned this house didn't actively live there and so they were not doing laundry there either. My father is concerned that the increased waterflow of laundry might be a problem. I'm really not sure to do. If anyone has any insight or advice they could share, I'd really appreciate it. My dad is usually pretty sure of himself in these types of matters and even he is conflicted.

P.S. It's in the country, so it's a septic tank, not public septic.
