Thanks, they are in great working order. We just don't love the gold. I didn't realize that paint was an option, do these hold up well even on such a smooth surface?

yes. if done correctly. easier if you can remove it and take it outside. go over the metal with steel wool or a fine sand paper, to make sure it's smooth and then wipe clean. If you can 'dull' the metal a bit, all the better.

That Rustoleum High heat paint should be good enough to use without a primer.

I would definitely try painting it. The before and after photos are such an improvement. If you end up not liking the finished piece, you haven’t really lost anything and then can buy one. This looks quite doable.

The glass doors are used by some if your flue lets too much air up the chimney, otherwise a screen to keep embers from a wood burning fireplace escaping the hearth.

Just call a fireplace store tomorrow. With measurements of the opening. Simple.

Your fireplace is unusual and has several limiting factors that will prevent you from using the stock fireplace doors that you find at home centers and online. You don't have a raised hearth or a flush hearth, you have a hole in the wall with a ledge at the top and a lip at the bottom, so you will need custom made fireplace doors, which is exactly what we do.

If you send us some better pictures of your fireplace and we can show you how various custom doors will look on your fireplace, which makes it easy to choose. Ultimately it is best if you remove the existing door and take some pictures, but we have ways of working around that if you prefer not to remove the doors.
