If you can't fix the issue by adjusting watering habits, you CAN fix it by adopting a highly aerated soil, the top of which dries down quickly. If you choose to use insecticides, and a topical insecticide in particular, treatments that persist at least 4-5 days are most effective. Pyrethroid-based insecticides, that list 'extended persistence' are available for use on houseplants
including those containing the following active ingredients: bifenthrin,
cyfluthrin, permethrin, others. Insecticides with short persistence are poor at controlling adults
and require repeat applications, like every other day, to be effective. Apply topicals other than soaps/oils to the top of the soil.

You know about the sticky yellow traps, and the microbial insecticideGnatrol (Bacillus thuringiensis subsp israelensis, or Bti) works well when used as a soil drench.

Imidacloprid is safe when used indoors for houseplants, but you must not spray it indoors. If I had infested plants, I'd drench the soil with an imidacloprid solution = to 1 tsp of an imidacloprid 1.47% tree drench (there are many brands) in a quart/liter of water Apply when you're watering.

Bti is cheaply and typically easy to find at a BBS .... look for "mosquito dunks". A small chunk (1/4 of a " donut") can be used in a gallon jug of water. Allow to sit overnight to inoculate the water which you then use to water the plants. Chunk can be reused until it completely disintegrates. Keep in mind the Bti only kills gnat larvae. Adults would not be affected.

Are the bugs only on the plant? Or only on the soil. If they are actually flying, and are on the plant itself, they could possible be thrips ... which can be a bear to get rid of. If, on the other hand, they are on the soil and are actually jumping and not flying, they would most likely be springtails which are harmless.

Soil only. They only fly/move when i disturb the pot or blow on the soil....

Most probably springtails, then. Rather interesting lil insects. They eat decaying organic matter and are harmless.

Look at them as a symptom of an overly wet medium and/or one that has a lot of material high in cellulose, which breaks down quickly.
