Is this room more for conversation or watching TV? Are the green chairs swivels?

Funny, I thought B made the MOST sense. It's a nice conversation-centered layout that deemphasizes the TV (but still has the couch facing it). Needs a couple lamps and end tables though.

Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of TV-centric living rooms (I love a good dedicated TV den though) so I'm always going to vote against layouts that work for the TV lol.

C makes the most sense since you DO have a television in the room. And it looks nice.

B works well if the chairs are swivel chairs.

I like b if you can swivel chairs to the tv. I like the conversational aspect of it. None are bad, unless you have traffic issues.

Do you like the feel of the chairs in A giving you more of an open feel to the kitchen or do you like the sofa in C giving you more of a visual break between the kitchen and living area. I have a set up like C with swivels as during the day I like to sit in the chair and swivel to look outdoors. But I have another TV room for night viewing that is set up like A as the chairs are more comfortable and the sofa is easier to sprawl out on for TV viewing.

@tedbixby, yes, we like the feel of A. It is our favorite in terms of a movie night layout. The chairs are super comfortable and as you said the couch is good to lay on and face the tv. I loved how B made for good conversation, but felt it looked unfinished because I was unable to put a table between the chairs or next to them because of the need to swivel all the way around to see the tv. C was the way we have had our layout for years. However we just got this couch and it is huge and tall. I thought it dwarfed the chairs in that position. So, as you can tell we are leaning towards option A, but I was curious what others thought.

The good thing is that you can have one lay-out for a couple of yrs and if you get bored with it you have the option to change things up and go to another lay-out. From the photos you posted, the chairs look substantial next to the sofa and the thought that the sofa was too large never crossed my mind. And by the other comments here, I don't think anyone else thought it either.

Never hang pictures in line with a door or window frame . THat creates a straight line that grabs attention but in a bad way. Bring it down at least 6 or 8 inches. Picture A

My first thought is A with the removal of the chair that's near the artwork.

I would hang tv above the fireplace, then arrange your furniture facing the tv and fireplace

I personally like C. If you’re like me I’d have the room looking different each week.

Worse place for a TV is above a fireplace. Too high for viewing- bad on the neck and heat from the fire can damage a TV.

Not your question but: how is it keeping your light sofa clean? I was looking at one recently but got scared over the idea of spills and wear spots.

Even though you asked the OP about keeping a light sofa clean I'll give you my 2 cents. There are so many fabrics out there now that are pretty much bullet proof that with a bit of looking you should be able to come across one that is reasonably price and in a lighter fabric that should meet your need.

@storybook home This is a new sofa so not sure how it will hold up. We do have a no food or drink on the couch rule so hopefully that will help. We have had light sofas in the past and with the exception of a chocolate milk stain (hence the new rule) they were pretty clean. I did get our old one professionally cleaned about once a year.

I love the art above the fireplace, but it seems a bit tall. Could you switch the two pieces of art? You may need a narrow open legged console table under that landscape for balance if placed on the wall between the doors.

Prehaps bring up the marble top side table and lamp and place between the sofa and blue chair in C.

Do you watch the t.v. from the kitchen (is that why you keep in on the one wall in A,B, & C?)

Would it fit on the wall between the two doors across from your large window or would it impede the flow there? Or is the cabinet too long for that wall? It just seems like the fireplace and t.v. cabinet grouped so close together weigh that end of fhe room down.

Your room is lovely with any arrangement. The colors are harmonious and the border on the rug ties it all together.

I agree with hazelcraddock. I would have put the tv on the short wall. As you have it, I like C

C is the best and then A. I do not like B. Separating the chairs to the corners and blocking the fireplace is odd.

Am I the only one who likes A? I love that you can sit on the couch with your legs up without the need to turn your head to watch tv At the same time two other people can watch tv. I’d go with the A

I like C the best. But my advice is to live with it for a while, then it's easy enough to change it if it doesn't work for you. Nice room, BTW!

I sort Of like A best ..but would move one Of the green swivel chairs to the wall with that lonely chair and put the little tableta in between ..that way you can look out as well.

I love all the opinions and ideas! Hazelcraddock, I do think the tv would work well on the short wall for furniture arrangement and actually mentioned it to my husband. He is not interested in doing any rewiring, so that won’t work. As far as the artwork goes we have since taken the colorful blue picture out of the room and switched it with another painting. I’ll take a picture shortly. I know that mantle picture looks large, but I feel in person it works?
Right now we are living with option A, but it is nice to know that there are other ways to arrange the furniture!

Also, the wooden chair is more of a place holder right now. I am wanting a swivel reclining leather chair to go there. Still looking for one.

If you do replace the small wood chair on TV end with an armchair I like A the best. Less cut off and more open from the kitchen . The chairs may look best if they were slightly angled like in B. But that armchair will make all the difference I would imagine imo.

Not sure why you need another swivel chair. I don't think you need a chair at all that's near the artwork.

Can you show the three arrangements from the same view? I'm finding it hard to evaluate the differences when each picture captures a different angle of the space.
