This mirror is a bit too large in this room IMO.

It would be better if the mirror were mounted over a sideboard, but it doesn't appear there is any room for a sideboard in the room.

Why can't the mirror be hung horizontally? Looks like it would fit well in that direction. There is no rule against hanging a mirror in a dining space; in fact, it's often done. Enjoy it there if you desire. It's very pretty, but I don't think I would paint it black.

You need color in the room. If you determined to keep the mirror in the room, do not paint it black. Keep it as is. Yes, add artwork that pleases you. The frames of artwork are determined by the artwork itself; no need to have black frames on all artwork. Look at photos of rooms with art and see what appeals to you as to content,style and hanging arrangements.

I would do a horizontal mirror, but the one you have wouldn't be my first choice. the bezel is too ornate for the room. not ornate, but a mirror should compliment the room. that one doesn't compliment any of the furnishings or lighting in the room, it stands on its own. kind of light the pink elephant

You have one doorway black the the rest white from what I see. I am trying to figure out why black? I suppose a second hit due to the doorway?

Its just the hardware for the sliding door- I painted the molding over it but it does still look black. In person it’s more charcoal

IMO mirrors never are a choice for DRs no one wants to see themselves eating and a mirror should always reflect something worth seeing twice so since you don’t want to heed the advice given do what you want .

^ but its not the advice I asked for. I’m not trying to only do what I want I’m trying to get input regarding HOW to do what I want. How come I can’t ask for input based on the decisions I’ve already made? I still value your opinion about color, placement height & art choices.

Paint it black with a little champagne showing through. Do not hang it horizontal.

In my opinion, I can't imagine nicer images to reflect than the faces of those I love gathered around my table and the food we're sharing. Nobody sits and stares into the mirror, watching themselves eat.

I've seen lots of dining room with mirrors. I have one and every time I swap it out for art of some sort, I end up switching it back. I really don't think anyone even notices when there's a mirror while eating much less is "self conscious" or watching themselves eating....give me a break.

ETA: And you won't know till you try...hang it up and see how you like it. Vertical or horizontal...Is the mirror super heavy and doesn't it already have any type of hanger or hook type things already attached?

I don’t think anybody would stare at themselves while eating unless they had some sort of personal reason for fixating. I also think that my dining table is empty about 98% of the time so it‘s rare enough that somebody would have the opportunity to do so
