I've read houzzer posts about a floating frame. It's a canvas?

Hard to pay attention to the art when those very cute doggies are in the pic! Awww, lucky you.

It is blending way too much with the wall. I'd move that to another location and purchase another piece of art. Your fireplace is lovely.

Is the art on canvas? If so I think a black floating frame would make it pop with the fireplace.

You can paint a square on the wall a few inches wider than the art in the darkest color in the painting. Try masking the area size with painters tape then hang the picture in the center of it and see how it looks....then add some accessories. Here is an inspiration picture.

You need a very big picture or multiple pieces to move your eye along the mantel....here is an example of framed matted pic, but the darker paint can work too; also pottery/plant that goes half way up pic and small pot next to it or you could have same pot on either side to fill the mantel...in this case the tall candle sticks add drama to the setting.....or you could put your picture away for now and do the whole room and add the picture as the last design layer to the room.

I think a box frame is a good solution here, maybe oversized with colored matting. You could also just put matting behind it like shown here. You'll want to pick a better color for the matting though - this is just a quick mockup. Maybe bring a big picture of the wall to a frame store and see what works best for you.

But if there is a color that draws out your liking of her [the art].... a pink, or stronger lipstick color -- use that somehow.

The reason you feel that it's too bland is because it is. That is not the right piece to go there, and putting it in a frame is not going to help. It's the wrong size, the wrong colors, and the content doesn't appear to make any sense. Is it a picture of a horse (?) You need to hang something else there.

To each her own; but to make the art stand out... might not be so possible, as has been implied, or said straight out.

From a tiny photo without seeing your whole room, I 'see' more so the lines and materials of the fireplace, which is just fine. The art has maybe a secondary place, as the soft counterpoint.... if this makes sense, ok... I'm not an expert but I know what I like. In other words, I see a plus in your placement of her. It's a woman isn't it? like photos you see today, sometimes they leave out part of the head.

I would add a linen liner, a very narrow fillet moulding and frame.

I thought it was a rabbit too. I see that cpaul1 thought it was a horse. I still don't see the woman or is there more than one(women).

Flo, thanks for the description! I stared at it for 30 seconds and all that came to mind was an ink blot of a mule or something! The halter portion looks like two long ears. Now I see the dress.

The fireplace door is too bulky, so painting the brass trim black will not solve the issue. Get yourself a frame for the art and a "Stiletto Cutback Fireplace Door" like the one below that has a very narrow frame. You will also notice that more of your beautiful granite will show instead of the bulky fireplace door frame.

To find out if the Stiletto door will work for your fireplace, post a close-up picture of the fireplace with the doors open so I can see the inside.
