And there's no wall separation in the closet? It would make sense to enlarge the opening then. Just make sure the wall isn't load bearing.

Even if it s load bearing, you can have it framed for a large opening. You will lose wall space and you will probably want doors to cover the opening - bifold give you more working room than sliders. I personally hate sliders, but some people like them. Hire a good framer.

Before committing to a precut system (such as Pax) get some quotes from closet companies. The issue with the pre-cut system it may not not fit into the space and have gaps. What is the actual back wall width of each closet?

If there's nothing within walls like plumbing or hvac & it's not load bearing, make it 1 big nice open reach in closet.

Ideally sliding pocket doors or sliding doors or barn door, but the space to left would need to be adjusted. A general contractor can install one. After closet doors & walls installed then a closet system.

Widen both doorways with hinge doors & small wall in between doors not within closet may be easier for this space.

I suggest avoiding bifolds, they are a nuissance & come out of line or off track

Inside a hanging system,not built to floor with double hang & some space for long hang. Building to floor prevents bigger items from being stored & slid under. Avoid wire systems. High quality MDF 3/4" hanging systems are my favorite. like CA Closets. Byt they're expensive. I work for them years ago. There are more companies with similar products for better prices now.

I designed closets for years for several companies. Get 2-3 quotes locally. Be forewarned,once you get 1 closet professional system, you may want more later:)
