Common name is Cardboard Plant, if I'm not mistaken.

Just FYI but many cycad palm seeds are very toxic to dogs so be careful if you have fur babies.

And if you want to start the seeds, get them before the little hungry mice

or rats or squirrels get them. I had a 2 qt. pot of Coontie seeds get eaten

overnight on my porch.

mr1010 - I would be upset for sure if that happened! I got my coontie seeds under a huge old coontie on a walk one day. Some of them had even sprouted. I've lost a few, but I do have one pot with 7 plants in it and a couple of single ones that survived. I'm going to try to plant them out this year. The last two I tried to transplant didn't make it.

Mine are in 3-inch pots and still very tiny. They've been in there for 3 years. The group planting is getting very crowded and breaking out of the pot, so I need to at least put that up into one size larger. I'll leave the singles for now. I'm hoping for a female. I have a large male, but no females.

Coonties are pretty common around here, so I can always find more seeds when they die back in the winter.

Cardboard palms are so great and can take gobs of abuse. I noticed mine had a cracked pot a few years ago. I kept meaning to repot it. Last year I noticed its roots had broke most of the bottom of the plastic pot away so its just kind of planting itself in the ground lol.Still havent repotted it. Mine had seeds one year. The next year, I removed them before they got too big so they wouldn't end up on the ground.

If they have seeds they can only be female. And if they're physically connected they're all going to be the same sex.

Thanks floral- this clump is 4x4 ft. It was a little hitch hiker in a pot of something else

gifted to me. I just went out and looked it over, I think it has both male and female

plants all growing close together. Only a couple females in it with a dozen male

plants, I think. I read that it takes male and female to make seeds on the female

and a little beetle pollinates the female. Is that correct?

No idea about pollination of these things but in dioecious plants seeds/fruit can only appear on female plants.
