Help finishing off my fireplace

Hello,

We moved into our house over 3 years ago, and I'm just getting to the point of finishing off my living room. This is the main living area of the house, but the kids tend to play in a separate room. We do watch TV in here. I am still struggling with the fireplace just not looking quite finished off. I feel like it needs something?

Also, I need to replace the ugly fan/light combo. We never use it as a light or as a fan, so I want something more decorative. Thoughts?

I think it's quite lovely. My only suggestion would be to get artwork that is just a single larger painting and move it down on the mantle. The sofa art could be moved down a tad too.

I think it looks very nice as is. But if you'd like to add a bit of "oomph", you could paint the center inset area in a color that complements the two pieces of art, kind of like matting them. The color should also tie in with the room.

I think I remember your fireplace. Did you post about it before you redid it? It looks wonderful now! Your room is beautiful.

Everything looks lovely! I agree about one large piece of art over the FP. I’d actually save up aNd wait for a really special piece of orginal art that makes your heart go pitter-pat. In the meantime...I’d do nothing (well maybe lower those 2 pics near the cased opening a scooch.) And you should get a medal for transforming that difficult FP into something stunning!

yes I was posting about it in like 2015-2016 and I have been ever so slowly working on it since then. It took a while but I finally found the right carpenter to get rid of the lions. I remember your beautiful house too!

Nini, thanks! The prints up there I actually inherited from my grandmother. We think they were brought from Korea during the war but she is 97 and doesn’t remember so well.

I agree they aren’t perfect but I had them and I figured i would get them up while I was waiting for the perfect thing. IMO the shape is actually a little awkward for one painting, being so long and narrow.

I’ve been looking at this light for 2+ years but it is pricey and I haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

Thoughts?
