Irma, It's Amaranthus tricolor . It's commonly called "summer poinsettia" (Although it dies on me here in the heat of summer). It produces lots of seed though.

What is the name of the plant pictured between the Crown of Thorns and the Kalanchoe. It has large leaves and a bright pinky purple spike of flowers?

Linda, thats Odontonema callistachyum aka purple firespike. Someone sent me cuttings of it on here last summer in exchange for cuttings of brazilian red cloak. That which you see is it's first flower spike budding. It's got two others on the way as well.

Thank you Florida Joe. When I bought this plant several years ago at a flea market type of sale, the guy said it was a purple justicia. It grows very well for me. I propagate many plants for my garden club plant sales and I could never find a picture of this plant online that looked like mine. Now I know it is a firespike! Thanks for the ID.
