help with couch color

I’m choosing a sofa set or sectional to put in my great room. I have three young boys and pets (so I can’t get the beautiful stylish sofa I want). It needs to have recliners (per my husband) and stand up to fur and spills. I will post my materials in my house (it’s a new build). The floors are the wood look tile, stairs to the second floor are visible and have the carpet. The kitchen cabinets are dark grey with black hardware and quartz counters. Walls are the light grey pictured. What color couch? I’m leaning towards taupe.

Please reconsider the taupe. Everything will look very bland. If you choose your fabric carefully as to stain resistance and ease of cleaning, you can choose nearly any color you want.

So, ANY color except the one I want. can you be more specific? I would plan to use color in my other soft goods if I did taupe.

I don't see a reason why the right taupe wouldn't work if you add color as you mentioned. Not a pro here but I tend to prefer my sofas in neutral shades.

We bought a custom lazy boy sectional in charcoal, hubby got his recliner on one end, I got my chaise on the other end and it’s modern looking and suits our tastes. Not bulky! I would recommend looking there. We love it and it still looks like new after almost 4 years and 2 extremely messy teenagers and a dog. Charcoal hides everything!

Light grey walls and taupe sofas are both classic and harder to pull off really well than you might think. Some taupes pull green, some purple. Ditto the walls. So getting large samples of both matters. Especially matters when you get to the fun pillows, rug, accents stage ;-) I have a friend who purchased from Lazyboy who is very happy with her recliner sectional for her young family, too. It is pretty sleek, not a puffy marshmallow. She went with an ivory in a performance fabric. Braver than I was at that stage.

I would do a navy leather sofa. The navy works really well with light or dark grey and gives a bit of punch to the room. Keep the sofa simple looking and not poofy like a lot of the reclining types. For more color add a couple of purple and a mustard yellow throw pillows. Dont be afraid to add a bit of colour to your space, you will love the results

"Some taupes pull green, some purple."

I agree, hollybar. That's why a I mentioned using the right taupe. It can take some looking.

I'd do something like this. a heavy, textured sort of fabric w/dense, firm cushions. This will hide any errant drops of food or drinks, will spot clean and will stand up to children. color is great too. throw on diff pillows, get a patterned rug, a throw, some artwork.

bring in some camel color leather recliners, maybe a bold club chair, and you have a perfect backdrop.

Here's your taupe colored sofa. be careful w/chenille material. it won't last very long before looking beat.

I like that. (I saw that table lamp on Wayfair). love the media grouping, the velvet sofa and the warm leather and wood. Looks great.

    I like the navy, too.

I can’t do it because it shows every speck of fur and dirt.
