Im no designer but I dont think someone else can tell your story. Thats the part that makes your home unique. Its also the part that really makes some folks love your home and others hate it. Find items that you cherish, items that were given to you, items that your kids created, etc. to add the additional layer. Otherwise whatever you get will be store bought and have no meaning and therefore tell no story. Once you gather those items then get direction on how to display them in a way that is appealing.

I'd start shopping at local galleries and artisan shops where you'll find items handmade by local craftsmen and artists. Buy what you like, and what appeals to you. That's something a designer would ask you about anyway for those items. That's how you tell who you are and what your interests are and what appeals to you. It's really going to be fun!

After reading your question it seems that you are very aware of what your decorating needs are. That is the first “half” of a successful business relationship. Contacting a few interior decorators in your vicinity will give you the opportunity to chat on the phone or email about your needs. Select the person you feel comfortable with and that you feel totally understands what you are requesting. Ask around too from other people who may recommend a decorator that they have used and like.
