I don't think 4 pieces make a Gallery wall. Now add some real art

I think it looks great so far. I'd consider adding another item or three as you go along . . . there's something about odd numbers in decorating that pleases my eye. I like the idea of black and white beach photos that other suggested. Don't get discouraged; you're off to a great start!

You did ask how it looks. If all you wanted was an opinion on the gallery wall placement, then that's what your question should have stated. You can't get mad at people for answering the question that you post.

Now, to answer your clarified question, I think you need something else on the left side to help balance the right. Maybe something that has to do w/the beach? that would even out the other side

If any house deserves shiplap, it would be something at the beach.

OP - to go back to your previous comment, no, I don't think your layout is too busy, but I do think it's a bit impersonal. I like the clock, but I'd be inclined to gradually replace the other items with things that are more individual - no rush, but if you come across something in your wanderings that has meaning and memories attached (a piece of art or a handicraft picked up at a beachside stall or fair or on an overseas trip, for example) I'd put that up in place of the more generic things. My house is full of assemblages of art and artifacts I've acquired on my travels, each of which has a story (and a piece of my life!) attached. I like to see that in people's homes, but too often that "story" is missing.

I purchased a hobby lobby decor piece with candles. Someone gave input about it and at first I was a little annoyed. Now after spending more time learning and further developing my style, I am grateful for the earlier comment. I plan on replacing it to match my evolving style of organic industrial and modern. I totally support artists, there is always wonderment about their stories and artistic evolutions.

I have had some very weird decor and furniture over the 40 years of our marriage. I remember the bad trends like pastel southwest motifs and the eye-warping zig zags in our dining room wallpaper.

I live in the midwest but love the ocean. I am guilty of having nautical decor in a bathroom, but I did experiment with painting my own ocean scene. I am sure the kids will fight over it when I croak...lol!!!

One thing for sure, we all change over the years. I now prefer different art styles, including poured acrylics and photography, so it is nice to remain open minded to those who offer advice.

Kathy Moloney, yes, it needs more. More pieces, more variety, more movement. Let me see what I can do. Back in a bit with a rendering.
