I still like mine and would do it again. I think it depends on the kitchen and surrounding space. In my case, I wanted to marry painted cabs with a lot of wood elements in the house Including wood stained windows/trim.

Hello,

Here are a couple of design articles (with pictures) that discuss two tone kitchens:

Agree that it depends on the kitchen. I didn’t have room for an island but did have a separate area that I used Navy and used white for the main area

I second @Rantontoo's comment. I wanted to have the wood on the great room fireplace tied into my white kitchen so I included a wood island. It makes the open plan space much more cohesive.

It depends on your specific layout and what this space adjoins. Has to make sense. Avoid going with trends. They come and go. Do what you love.

When you say two-toned...do you mean one color on top and another color on the bottom (”tuxedo”) or do you just mean mixing two colors in general? I definitely think it’s still common to have a different colored island. For the tuxedo cabinet style, it can be hard to get right sometimes, but I like these images. I think the black/dark on bottom and white on top is common, but can be kind of stark and hard to decorate around.

We have this request often to make a statement, enhance a unique feature in the kitchen and or an island. It is a current and common design feature

.

Its so much more interesting than just one color or stain in my opinion.

I like mine. I wanted wood but thought it might feel heavy with the whole kitchen in wood, so did antique white upper and tall cabinets. My house is a 1915 bungalow, and I like the aesthetic of things being added over time and a bit mismatched.

Hi Janice,

There are no steadfast rules when it comes to two tone kitchens. They are still going very strong. Trends last 7-10 years and I fully agree with Pro Flo, avoid the trend and do what you love.

Good luck and happy kitchen planning!

Why don't you tell us what you have in mind?

I like two tone kitchens especially with stained wood and painted cabinets. I think stained wood brings warmth over just having all painted cabinets. I also think stained cabinets wear better (just my opinion). I say do what you like thus you will have no regrets. Good luck. Below picture is Oyster uppers with Peppercorn stained bottom on Cherry wood.

I did it too, partly in order to tie in the oak in my 1918 house. Caligirl, I was just reminded of the similarities between our layouts, so I took a pic rather like yours. :)
