Please Advice NEEDED 1986 Oak Kitchen cupboards

I am in need of advice. Moved into this house & kitchen cupboards are honey oak, 1986 cupboards. I have NO idea on the style of this cabinet door. I would like to redo. But I am unsure what would look good with this style of cabinet door. I know I do not want the honey oak color. Wish I could paint them but have no idea if this would look good. Any advice is welcomed as I am stuck on what to do. Thank you!

The cabinet door style will still be the same if you just paint them. Depending upon the quality of the cabinetry (real wood vs pressboard), it may be worth keeping the boxes and replacing the doors if the layout works for you. Painting kitchen cabinetry can get expensive, too. Since the kitchen appears to be somewhat updated, I would start my remodeling or updating with the room that needs it most...maybe a bathroom...and coming up with a plan for the kitchen and the needed budget next.

The oak makes the kitchen look rustic but the granite and back splash look a little more contemporary. To keep an eye on your budget I would paint them. Either a white or maybe a light gray switch out the the handles to a brushed nickel. What color are your walls? What style is your new home?

Thank you Tracy! I added another picture which shows the dining area too. We have painted this whole space SW Lazy Gray. Also updated light above dining room table & island. Still need to update light above kitchen sink. I'm not really sure what style this house is ..probably contemporary due to the very high ceilings in living room & a "bridge" walkway upstairs.. All trim/doors in this 1986 house are solid honey oak. I'm in process of changing all that to white. I would definitely like a light gray paint color for cupboards but I'm unsure due to the style of the door. All the pictures I have seen of kitchen cabinets (oak especially) I have NEVER come across this style of door.

I had a friend redo her kitchen a year ago......couldn't wait to get rid of all the stained wood and had new white cabinets installed and painted out the trim white as well.....ergo....a year later....she is so pissed, as the white is so much harder to keep, shows scuffs from the broom or vacuum or anything and the cabinets well they are so much more work as well....they show every speck of dirt and chip. The love affair with white is starting to wane......it really is your call though, if you like it then that is what is right.

If I had to guess - I'd say they are slab doors that were routed on the front to look like tongue and groove beadboard.

Please post a picture of your hinges, the backside of one of the doors, and the outer edge of the doors. I'm asking this because I think your cabinets use a knife hinge - judging from little I can see in the picture. You might be able to flip the door - backside out.

The kitchen cabinets are solid oak wood. I'm am very hesitant bc of the style of these doors. Here is a picture of the inside of the kitchen cabinet. I am definitely thinking about just replacing the doors.

I had these exact same cabinets. They are solid oak. However, the boxes are not. I was going to get new doors. They are standard sizes. And paint the boxes. However, for all the work and expense involved, I opted to have them refaced. Refacing does the boxes and puts all new doors and hardware. I loved the result. Painting those doors will not ever look good.sorry

Ok. That style is board and batten. The hinge style is a knife hinge. Those are tongue and groove solid oak doors. Very cool. But reversing them is out of the question.

If you have solid oak doors with knife hinges, I'd venture to say that your cabinet boxes are rock solid and worth the investment of replacement doors.
