Awkward master bedroom layout

Hi all,

Our master bedroom for our new build seems a little awkward. I thought that the bed should be across from the fireplace (which is between the 2 closet doors). However, then windows are awkward— with one being next to the bed and one being far away. Should we move over the window that is closest to the bathroom so that it is more closely flanking the bed? Is that then awkward that the bed is towards the back end of the room and there is a lot of empty space towards the bathroom side? Would putting a piece of furniture like a desk in that area resolve this? Should we add a 3rd window to that left exterior wall?
Thanks!
The back wall is supposed to be 3 windows with built in bench and shelving. It also seems off center and I think because architect was centering it with bathroom wall. That seems like easier fix.

I appreciate the help!

Move the window. It’s awkward shoved in the corner, anyway. Makes furniture placement and curtains difficult, too.

I’d eliminate the bay in the bathroom, too. And part of bedroom 2’s closet is unreachable.

Thank you for the feedback! So something like this? Also, do you think better to get rid of built in bench/shelving on far end? Would it be too crowded now? The room is pretty big— a little more than 16 than 22 — so we thought it could be a nice feature (see photo below). But maybe better to just do the windows?

Do you really need the 2 windows on the right side. You have a huge window on the other

wall to let in lots of light, this would then eliminate your problem.

    Possible pocket doors to bathroom.

Where are you going to put other furniture in that bedroom. It's a large room, but

not a lot of wall space.

How about a simple idea? Bed centered on FP, Bedside on each side and create a cute sitting area in corner with reading light, table etc. You need to keep in mind if you move a window, how does it affect the exterior look of the whole house. Will it be awkward?

Oddly designed room, but the bed definitely doesn't need to be centered on the fireplace. Center it between the windows, as that is how you'll see the room when you enter it.

My bed is centered on my fireplace and I have windows on both side, plus a window on a wall. The door to the bedroom, the two closets and the bath are all on the other side. My closets are built so that I need only one chest of drawers - it's on the wall with the single window, between the window and my dressing table (which gets great light from the window on the bed side). It's been that way for over 34 years and it makes me very happy. It is a very large room - about 21 x 22. I have a nice seating area around the fireplace.

Rather than 2-3 large windows, why not a long rectangular window close to the ceiling? You’ll get light and privacy. And you can place the bed wherever.

I like the bed centered with the fireplace. It tucks it more on the other side for walkways and has less view from the entry.

As far as the window seat, I think they're a lovely feature, but how often will you truly sit there? Maybe in a common room where kids are, it would be more likely to be used. In your bedroom, I'd rather have a comfortable chair next to the window to sit and read a book while enjoying the nice fire.:)

Will you be needing a place for a dresser in your bedroom or will all the clothes be stored in your closet? I would measure and take into account where any furniture will be placed, so not to be surprised when moving in.

Some other thoughts - the her closet looks to have access to the laundry which will be a great feature. But it would be really nice if the his closet had the same.

-agree on bedroom 2's closet-that will be hard to access, but a great hiding spot for kids dirty clothes-;)

-in your master bath you won't have a lot of counter space. I'd rather have one sink and some drawer storage and a full sized linen closet within. Also, the double doors aren't particularly practical. We've had these in the past and found them to be awkward and lots of times left open, -path of least resistance issue.

I like that the window on the lower right is centered on the door. If you keep your BR door open, that will be a nice view from the hallway. As mentioned above, you need to consider how moving the windows would affect your exterior elevation.

Not keen on the closet setup for BR2, also as mentioned above. And they'll hear the noise from the master toilet area: the master loo is back to back with the BR wall. Maybe you can put the master loo area near the top wall of the bathroom so it backs up to the hall closet, and move the closet for BR2 down so it's more accessible. (Or revamp the whole area.)

Thank you all so much for the suggestions! What do you think about these changes? I included the “before” and “after”. Basically I got rid of the hall linen closet (there are 2 others for the kids so this would have been for us) and put a small linen closet in the bathroom. I created a hallway entry where the hall linen used to be, which allowed me to extend the wall down to make the fireplace and closet doors shift down. I moved the closet in bedroom 2 down so fully accessible now. I moved the WC to go into the attic space (allowing room for linen closet in master bath and room for bedroom 2’s closet). I also removed the built-in shelving/window seat and replaced it with 2 chairs. The bed is now centered across from fireplace and the windows are also fairly centered. Oh and the shift allowed for a nook in the “hers” closet which gives more width for part of it, which someone suggested. I included the furniture as well— we won’t need dressers for clothes since the closets are big but could add decorative pieces. Thoughts on the plan changes?? Suggestions?? I also included photo of entire floor for reference. Thank you!!

Delete the 2 windows, center the bed on the FP, assume 76+" for king bed, then re-add the same windows where appropriate

Depending on what else is going on in the house, may need to swap the triple windows for a double or 2 separate single windows. But that's all subjective

I think that moving the door like that makes the bedroom entry wonky. Also I would consider changing to a single door to the bathroom. We have those double doors in our current house and really would prefer a single door. The double doors lets through more light and noise than a single door.

Move the fireplace down and switch the door to your closet. Note below how now the bed is centered between the windows and the fireplace is too?
