Wall Paint Color help!!

Need help finding a wall paint color for my bedroom and master bath. I am torn between a creme, light beige or gray. My comforter is teal and curtains are multi color. I will have SW Secret Garden on the master bath vanity or as an accent wall in the master bath with gold fixtures. I have plenty of light with one wall of windows. Any ideas would be great!!!!

What color is your floor? Need to consider if you have carpet that may clash with walls. Hardwood usually goes with everything, but carpet and tile can be finicky.

It is light hardwood. The trim is now white.

IMO the teal bedding is too dark and to harsh to coordinate with the selection of draperies. I would select the lighter blue color or the matching pattern for the drapery panels.

The first two colors could be used for the wall paint colors.

Now I am worried the Teal maybe too dark...anyone agree. I may not be able to return it. Maybe I should change the curtians

Perhaps a soft green grey like soft fern or silver sage
  • 7 years ago

    Taupe.

I like Beverly’s choices for paint colors with the curtains. To my eye, the bedding does not look bad with the curtains. I agree the lighter color is probably better. How do they look to you (in person)?
I think the dark teal bedding may still work, but I do prefer the lighter one Beverly showed. What I do feel looks off is the paint colour you’re using in the bathroom. It looks to be a dark olive green and I don’t think it will mesh with the teal.

Choose the lightest aqua in the print. Like that fabric!

Everything I posted is from Pier I. You should be able to exchange the dark bedding for the lighter bedding. The price is the same. You're not asking for a refund.

Don't make your room even darker by purchasing darker drapery panels.

I see nothing wrong with tying in bathroom's green vanity - this is lovely imo and you could find curtains with a simpler mix of colors.

With this direction not sure you'd have to change paint color that much... this transitional type of look? is that what you are doing with new trim color....

Its harder to find draperies that work, than it is to find bedding. I would keep the ones you have, they are really pretty. Once you have painted, then try the darker teal bedspread. If you feel it is too dark, you may be able to tone it down a bit, with a lighter throw, and some lighter pillows.

If your furniture is somewhat dark wood/stain, and floor wood too, a dark teal might be too much weight. Wouldn't a lighter color work from the curtains - wait that's been said. ;-)

I even thought a large dresser could be well done in chalk paint in neutral-type medium robin's egg blue.... a right brown wax in highlight areas...

Yours is ornate, but if it's a loved color and in your curtains pretty much, just an idea / Designer's comment: Gabrielson brought in more robin’s-egg blue by painting her clients’ dresser. "Without that change it would have felt too heavy and formal."

ok slightly devastated since I love these curtains...when I see them they give me the yummy feeling but my husband just saw them and is absolutely a no go for him (said the look like his grandmas :( so I am doing a 180 and believe me this is a 180. He wants rustic...deer in the bedroom. I explained I am not in a cabin and I am a girly girl but we are in the woods if that counts :). I am already getting the vanity painted the green color. He is against painting the furniture...but I think it is a great idea but probably a not go as well. So if anyone has any ideas I need ALOT of help coming up with something updated with deer if that is even possible. I understand I need to go lighter with the darker furniture...maybe just pillows and not all the bedding with deer. I do love quilts and will have to say I need to stay with Pier one items if possible since I will have to return my teal quilt. I thought taupe would be nice but didn't find one so maybe the gray version of the teal quilt ???? but I need some color as well...maybe coral or sage.....I am so overwhelmed..my painters will be here next Friday so I have to get the paint color by then as well as bedding and curtians...I am now at square 1...I thought about just going ahead and doing BM Collingwood neutral color if I can't get it together by then. I am so glad you all didn't let me make a major mistake...THANK YOU ALL

Also I can change the color of the vanity since they will paint it this weekend as well

Oh my, I feel for you. The last thing I would want in my bedroom would be a deer theme, and I liked those curtains too. I found this photo here on houzz and maybe something along these lines could be a compromise.

Im not sure about the grey with your warm wood floor and furniture. The green paint you had chosen for the bathroom vanity is a nice colour, and if the teal is out then I think you can still work with it. You do need need to pick other pieces, ie bedding, before paint colour though. Found the pillows below on pier 1, so maybe a green, gold and white/cream colour theme.

I really like this idea they have the same quilt in cream...sorta worried about the kids with a light color. But also liking the Zachary below. It is sorta Gold

I like the Zachary. The photo below from pier 1 is what inspired me to suggest green, gold and cream. You could easily achieve a similar look with any warm colour neutral bedding. The throw pillows shown look like they would go with the bathroom paint colour you liked, but there are lots of throw pillows out there. Just wanted to give you and idea. You could also add some art with trees or foliage to add more of the green shade.

There is no gray in your curtains and the floor is a warm color. The beige in the color palette above would be the best, IMO.

If bedroom furniture is what's staying I'd consider that quite a lot. The green vanity unless you very much love it, could be more neutral imo.

What paint chips have you placed around the bedroom already: on floor, on dresser? Did you see Oyster White... do you know what current paint is!?

I copy your post: I am torn between a creme, light beige or gray.... which cream and light beiges have you considered... then we can comment on them.

With furniture as you now own, what is it about the teal spread you wanted?

why don't you get a few samples of paint and try them out? this way you can determine, by your lighting, which color works and which undertone or hue you don't want.

Might want to try looking for sone photos here on Houzz to get a better bead in this very different direction. I think with some discussion, you can both get some elements into the master that integrates both of you. Just going full tilt deer heads sounds like a step too far. I found this photo to help inspire you. You could do an antler chandelier as a nod to the masculine and a deeper wall color such as a deep hunter green. You can pick but then add a few other elements to keep a light tone such as chalk painting your dresser in a off white tone depending on the wall color you select. Here is one concept.

Thank you all for your advice and after reading everything I think this is the plan. Painting the room Mineral Deposit, comforter will be ivory, find some sage green or sage/blue green curtains (I would like white but these will be closed daily so afraid of stains), find some masculine pillows....maybe leather

. Still painting the vanity secret garden and painting the bath maybe a edgecomb gray..or similar. I would love to paint the furniture but that is not an option for now.

I know you are keen on the Secret Garden, but if you see this color from the bedroom, it is not a good combo. IMO. The SW Mineral Deposit is in the Blue/Green Hue family with an LRV of 43; and the Secret Garden is in the Hue Family of Green/Yellow with an LRV of 10. These two colors are not complimentary. Just so you know. Your Mineral Deposit, depending on your light, could go really blue, and I am just expressing concern. If you have done sample boards in your light, maybe they work, but I would not select that combination of colors. Sorry, just trying to help you not make an expensive mistake.

Thanks Flo I am just learning about paint colors...so what would be a good paint color to go in my master that goes with mineral deposit if I leave the oak vanity (we are redoing the bathroom in the next couple years)

I an clueless about the lrv difference but I assume the larger number is a no go

butting in to say I am beginning too... but the 2 colors would seem fine if an accessory bedding or pillow.

Flo ? is OP going eclectic with contemporary teal spread, etc.... seems she's not into the ornate! leather pillow also... right now I picture a matching textured pillow to the teal, like this, and not full-out opposite leather.

The floor matters some, and it seems gold/amber - this transitional look with dressy fabric might go with your teal - could pick things with brass/gold finish.

OK, I have an option for the bathroom vanity and the wall color. First, wall color, SW 9166 is a lighter tone; then for the vanity SW 7622 Homburg. They are in the Green Hue Family so those 3 colors would work well together. The Homburg has an LRV of 17, so it is dark tone, which I think was your goal for the vanity. Gold hardware and lighting would look great with these tones.

Opps, the 9611 is called Drift of Mist. Here are comparisons. The colors on the left are for the bathroom, and the ones on the right are the bedroom, with vanity color on bottom.

The reason these work together is because they are all from the same Hue family. Similar to your original choices but aligned with the bedroom color (top right side) SW Mineral Deposit.

Idk for sure, but my comments were revolving around your liking for color - teal!... are you going to use the bedding? the grey paint is ok, but...
