White cotton tank tops

I bought some white cotton tank tops for this summer, I will be wearing them during the day but also while exercising and bicycling. I have a bunch of colors/prints in cotton and linen but to me plain white cotton feels/looks good when it is 100 plus degrees. Ordinarily after bicycling in the Texas heat I change into a fresh shirt. I now use a washateria instead of having my own washer, so I have to save the sweaty shirts until wash day which is generally once a week. Is there any particular detergent you can recommend to keep my shirts clean, white, and smelling great?

I would have recommended regular Tide with bleach powder but recently heard the formula changed, however I haven't checked into it yet.

For sweaty workout clothing it's important to understand that sweat in itself has no odor. It's not until the bacteria starts to grow that the odor begins. If your only washing sweat infused clothing weekly I'd recommend doing a quick wash in the sink after changing. Cool water and a spoon of detergent...lay in the tub till dry than toss in the hamper. The sooner the sweat is rinsed out the less bacteria will grow and the less chance of hard to remove odors.

Another thought is...get yourself some pure Sodium Percarbonate, and STPP, and use both in a hot wash with any powdered detergent, a good detergent being best of course.

The sodium Percarbonate and STPP can both be found on Amazon. I recommend the ones from Pro Supply Outlet....stay away from products from Dafna.

Don't think you will find Tide Pro powder with Oxy any longer, but if you do its fabulous on whites.

Tide pro oxi I just seen on amazon for 42 bucks a box. Something to look into. Persil universal pearls are another great option. It’s on amazon as well.

Can I just use the above Tide and just wash the tank in hot water on the stove?

I know it's not cheap but it's good stuff.

Pricing it alongside the various pods being sold it is pretty competitive, only 30 cents a load. The boxes are pricey but that is because they are 15 lbs +.

I just bot a new box of Tide With Bleach powder yesterday. I'm not going to drag my bod downstairs to see if the formula is changed because I am chicken!

I bought the Tide Professional, hopefully it has not been changed. It sounds like it is just as much work to do a quick wash in the sink as an actual wash of a shirt or two, so I may start just washing the white tank tops and a few other items by hand.

Pat I'd be interested to hear if your formula has been changed whenever the fowl departs lol.

The back of the TWB is likely going to list same ingredients as it always has. It lists enzymes without saying which enzymes. So if one was removed or changed it would still say enzymes. If the surfactant changed it would still say surfactant.

Tide Pro with Oxy has a ton more Sodium Percarbonate than regular TWB. The PH is also lower in the Pro formula this is because hotels ect are washing linens daily and need to cut back some of the aggression to preserve the linens longer.

Lucille, are the white tanks 100% cotton? When you say stove top washing are you referring to a boil wash? If yes than I would use this method as a last resort....today's textiles are not like they were in the past....many won't hold up to water that hot.

Most of the tanks are 100% cotton, a few are 3% or 5% Lycra. No not a boil wash but a hot wash. I plan to hand wash the sweaty white tanks after wearing them instead of waiting a week. Likewise for other sweaty items and also hand wash some bras I am buying.

A few of the exercise capris I bought a couple years back have an exercise odor that just won't come out. I attribute this to the fact that they sat around in a laundry bin until wash day. I think that hand washing an item or two in warm or hot every day after wearing is not a big deal but may keep them usable longer.
