Help with laundry room ideas

I have a small laundry room that isn't very functional or attractive at the moment and I'm hoping to refresh it with some cabinetry and other tweaks. I think stacking the washer and dryer might be my best option here given the amount of space. I'd like a base cabinet with a counter top (i never use a laundry sink, so i don't think i need one now) with some upper cabinets that meet the ceiling and some hanging space. Basically what you see in the inspiration photo below. I want to make the most of it if I do add cabinetry and was wondering if anyone had any experience with laundry room cabinetry in such a small space and if there are any great ideas/little conveniences that i'm not thinking of that could be added in. Also any disadvantage to stacking the units? I've only ever used side by side laundry. Here's some photos of the room and my inspiration for the redo. One must is to reverse the entry door as it opens against the washing machine and drives me crazy.

Do you iron every day, every weekend, or once in a blue moon?

Also, do you accumulate dirty laundry here for a few days or bring one load at a time from other rooms?

apple_pie_order, we use the iron mainly for steaming in the laundry room daily. We do use to board as well, but not daily. We currently bring the laundry in to be washed from hampers in the bedrooms, but it would be nice to have some type of hamper for misc laundry like kitchen cloths etc. I find sweaters are frequently draped over the machines so i think maybe a base cabinet with several pull out mesh drying racks might be a good use of space. I'd like to close it up when in use so i'm thinking mesh inserts on the cabinet doors would help for air-flow. see photo below:

Do you have an Ikea near you? I'd take your measurements and see what you can find. We used Ikea cabinets in laundry room in a past house and they worked great. Lots of space-saving ideas there, too.

There is no ikea near me, but I recently renovated my basement and added ikea cabinetry and love it. Hoping to use IKEA again here if possible. I think i could probably remove a panel from a shaker style door and replace with the wire mesh I mentioned above.

liking the idea of one 30ish inch cabinet with two drawers on top, one including the iron idea below. and the pull out mesh drying racks housed in behind two doors

Thanks for info. Do you dry the sweaters horizontally (flat) or would draping them over a drying rack be okay? A pull down rack with a ceiling fan nearby makes very quick work of sweaters. If you don't care for ceiling fans, you can add a wall mounted fan that will be up and out of the way, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Hurricane-Technology-Included-Oscillating-Settings-ETL/dp/B00L2L3WUG/

Looks like you use a valet rod for steaming. Is that correct? FOr occasional plain ironing, a fold down ironing board is convenient and out of the way.
