Kitchen Remodel

We recently purchased a new home and are remodeling the kitchen. We are struggling with design layout. I would like barstool seating and an island but because the size and placement of appliances, a peninsula might be better? I would like to add a row of cabinets where current island is and we are knocking down the wall so kitchen will be open to dining room. Our kitchen is approximately 13 x 13. Any design ideas? Advice? We are in demo stage and removed overhead souffets and also ripped out pantry closet.

I suspect the refrigerator space in the foreground of your second pic. For an island with seating, you'll need to consider removing a wall or two.

A diagram that provides dimensions and labeling of adjacent rooms would be very helpful.

I have a 12.5 x 12.5 kitchen. It is L shaped with a small island (36 x 50"). In a space that size, usually an L with small island or a U shaped kitchen works best. On one of my walls without cabinets I have a pie safe that works as a small pantry. If I was building new, I would consider a narrow row of pantry cabinets (like only 15" or so deep) against that wall to gain more pantry storage. If you can place the fridge to the left of the cabinet next to the range, you would have an L, but I suspect there is a doorway there. You could also consider the fridge where the closet / pantry is to the right of the sink - but it is too small - you would need to reverse the sink and dishwasher and change size / location of the window.

ThAnk you for your comments. I attached a picture of our floor plan so essentially we have somewhat of a blank space now. My biggest question is figuring out whether we have space for an island or should put a peninsula. The biggest things I want for the kitchen are ample storage, bar seating, and plenty of countertop space while still being easy to navigate.

Without knowing how much you're willing to move/add/change or the make up of your family, one layout idea is below:

    - creates separate clean-up and prep zones

    - adds an 84" island (so room for 3 stools - 4 if you're going squishy)

    - tried to leave the main thoroughfare aisles as open as possible - since I assume there's a fair amount of traffic that goes from the hallway <--> laundry/garage

    - the range is out of this main traffic path

    - two sinks is maybe overkill for your kitchen, but given the various doorways and paths, having 2 really allows for separation of activities so that you don't have to walk around with pots of boiling water or veggies dripping from being washed...

In your current kitchen there is not enough space for both, so consider a counter height table that can double as an island. Sometimes you can even find ones that are expandable if that's what you require.
