metal roof & chimney stack colour ideas??

This is our house followed by inspiration pictures. Needing a new roof- going with a standing seam metal roof. We get lots of rain, high humidity and moss. So trying to pick a colour like the black or dark grey tones. Trying to figure out what to ‘wrap’ the chimney stack with as it needs to be covered for waterproofing issues. Do we do cedar? Hardie board? Split face rock? What colour? Keeping the pale grey house colour and window trim (new windows throughout the house) the other side of the house is the view side- towards the ocean. So going for a West Coast look.

Hello Zimmer,

Love the direction you're going in. There's one difference between your house & the inspo photos that stands out. That's the proportion/size of your chimney is relatively small to the house, where the color/material blocking on the inspo photos is done in much bigger swatches.

If you can't create a bigger chimney, you can make it FEEL bigger by giving it a stronger material. And for that reason (you watch Sharktank?) I suggest a split face stone, in a light tone to go with the siding.

The roof - go dark. The light grey siding & chimney will really pop off a dark standing seam. A dark bronze-ish can give a warmer feeling than straight black if that helps any.

IMO the cimney is not a feature of your home and should not be made one either. I would do that top portion including the chimney in black or charcoal metal like the roof then have the cedar portions at the lower level with some more of the dark metal and of course all black windows

Being on the West Coast we would usually go with Cedar shakes on the entire top floor in which case you would wrap the chimney in the same. Since you are keeping the paint color I agree with the commenter that said to go dark - on the roof and the chimney so it blends better with the roof color and gives your paint color more pop.

Thank you we have decided to go with a dark bronze (a softer shade of black). The company we are using also has metal cladding that looks like wood species. Thinking of using that cladding in the upper section and a portion of the lower section on the far left??. Will try to get samples in person- as not sure about the faux wood look.
