I have not posted in a while and am having problems with it. this is my third attempt but something keeps going wrong. I am attaching photos of my the issue with my tree. I tried giving more detail but my posts have not posted. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Is this something serious or should I just prune the branch and be done. Thanks for any help or comments.

Is this what caused the damage that is already present? It was the when I received the tree, my plan was to prune it back the damage when I notice the gel and cuts or entry point under it.
