Flygirl...thank you a simplebsolution to a years old dilemma!

I really like my sheet pan/tray pull out. We mainly have sheet pans and pizza pans in it. It could also store larger platters because it's pretty tall. I know many people store things like this over their fridge but I can't reach up there without a chair. I did not want to have to use a chair or step stool every time I wanted a sheet pan.

I store my spices in a drawer right next to the stove - it's super-convenient and everything is in order and easy to see, easy to grab. I used those inexpensive track thingies from the Container Store (they're the gray you see in the pic).

mxk3 we did something similar. We used spring loaded drawer dividers to keep everything in order.

No special cabinets needed...store purchased turntables are the best for all of those herbs, spices, condiments, etc.

I love kitchen organizers! They, to me, are what make a kitchen "work" better.

I have one extra deep drawer with two 12" dividers for misc baking items.

We went with as many drawers as possible, but we couldn't install drawers beneath our island cooktop. So, we fashioned a crossbar that holds all our most used pots and pans. Just LOVE this.

There are many more things, but these are my favorites.

So hard to choose! After 6 years, I still open a door or pull out a drawer and exclaim "This is my favorite thing in the new kitchen!" Favorite things include easy-reach uppers (I despised my angled corner cabinets); super susan; knife drawer; cake/pie pan drawer.

I got rid of a desk, but built in file drawers.

Since my cabinets were custom made by a local cabinet maker, I could specify the depths of these drawers, so they were deep enough for canisters.

I thought I was doing something original when I asked my cabinet maker to build pullouts above the fridge. Nope - he'd done it before. They are perfect for bulky, lightweight things like cereal boxes and paper towels, and big enough for my canning pot in the back (harder to get to, but I take it out at the start of canning season and leave it out until the garden is done).

I ordered extra shelves for all the upper cabinets, to maximize storage and minimize wasted space. This photo was taken as we were moving into the kitchen - I soon figured out to put items of like height on the same shelf. Short things are on lower shelves, so I can reach more shelves!

It is so easy to get excited about what we like.....because it works!!! Lol :)

What I want most in the kitchen is white large chairs. But I do not know where they can be ordered.

I love the way my cabinetry looks... my handy hubby designed and built them all for me! Here are a few of my favorite drawers, I especially like my drawer for skillets, they’re so easy to grab!

I’ve got a drawer with an insert with holes drilled in it for all our spice jars. I ordered 60 empty bottles from Penney’s and printed color-coded labels so it’s easy to put them back it the right spot.

In-drawer knife storage. I do not like a big block sitting on my counter, with a bunch of handles sticking out, taking up space on the counter. The in-drawer storage is so perfect. It also makes you cull your knives down to the essential ones. Ask yourself, how many odd-sized knives do I have that I never use, or how many duplicate knives? I gave a bunch of knives to my nephew who was just starting with his own apartment.

The size of the insert still leaves a few inches in the drawer available for odd-sizes like a cleaver. I also like that the knives are so visible so you can tell instantly which one you want to pull from it. This is not my photo; it's a stock photo from Amazon, to show you what I am talking about.

We have a pretty small kitchen so we really had to maximize the space we had. My favorite thing is my pantry on the side of my fridge. We got our cabinets from Lowe's so they were semi-custom and our consultant just couldn't envision what I wanted. I finally got my point across and I am so happy with the result! It is designed with faux cabinet fronts on the "front" next to the fridge and the side opens up to a pantry. It's 9 inches deep so stuff doesn't get lost, but it's as wide as my fridge and holds a ton of stuff! It's so much better than a narrow pull out pantry. I'll try to remember to take an inside picture when I get home!

Simplicity:

I ordered an extra shelf for every upper cabinet and had holes drilled every two inches for shelf supports so I can avoid the usual wasted space between shelving.

I'm trying to imagine cooking in this space.

Here are a few things I really like that I included in my home.

Under the main kitchen sink, I have an expandable shelving system. It can go out at least a foot beyond what I've currently set it at. It will, sometime. I like the useful dish towel hanger I have on the door that's open to the left, too.

Elsewhere, I have a standard bamboo knife/fork/spoon drawer close to the dishwasher. But I also cook and eat a LOT of Asian and other cuisines. So... a little further away, there is a bamboo-delineated drawer for Korean and Chinese spoons and chopsticks, as well as metal kabab skewers, nutcrackers intended for the rare lobster that appears here, and wine implements (corkscrew, wine stoppers, wine glass tags....) And a couple other small implements that don't belong in the standard knife/fork/spoon drawer.

And, I know the Internet is putting the death to all sorts of books, but... I'm sorry, I still value most of my cookbooks! I leave the opening to plug in the rice maker, for instance.

Ok - I'm an outlier. I don't like the separators and draw organizers for my stuff. I never remember which drawer section has the vegetable peeler, or the measuring spoons. So I just have a general stuff drawer. I always can find what I need and people who "help" me in the kitchen can easily put things away! Maybe I don't have as much stuff as other people? PS: dislike french door refrigerators for the same reason. I prefer one door to open and I can find what I need rather quickly. With FD, I open one side, look around, and then sometimes have to open the second door. Don't understand why people think FD are so great.

Lisa, I have a FD and I love it! But, I have things organized in my fridge. The milk is always in a specific place, as is leftover, fruits, veggies, eggs, cheese, etc. So, I always know which door to open!!

I also separate my drawers because I like being able to reach in and get what I want. I have 2 drawers with my "stuff". One is things that I use daily, measuring spoons, tongs etc. The other has things I use not so often; wooden utensils, ice cream scoop etc. Each drawer is partitioned to help me find things without searching and spending a lot of time.

I have pics of my things I love. Having redone my kitchen 3 yrs ago, I too find things I love about it each time I use it!!

Pop out plugs on the island.

Cutting boards and pizza pans.

Drink station with glasses above and coffee/tea below.

Lazy Susan for spices and pasta.

Knife drawer

Message station that is not in the center of the kitchen but easily accessible.

Countertop microwave with pull out stirring drawer.

Bar instead of a kitchen table with cabinets underneath for storage for those things you use 1-2 times per year but they are handy to have. And a desk that is accessible to the kitchen but not in the middle of all the hubbub. I can access my recipes easily. My message center is right behind the desk.

I enjoyed so much this kitchen thread! I wish I found it earlier before my renovation. But I will start thinking about similar herbs' storage as mentioned there.

I like the pull out spice rack in lower cabinets and these inbuilt nooks above the stove to put collectible cookie jars

I've moved, and I don't have photos of all my favorite things about my IKEA kitchen, but here goes.

• An outlet in the drawer to charge our phones.

• All full extension drawers, no uppers

• A decorative piece of galvanized metal on the inside of my pantry cab door to hold notes and recipes with magnets.

• Huge Elkay single bowl sink

• Maximera drawer dividers and Variera drawer organizers

• IKEA vertical baking sheet storage.

• Wriggly tin backsplash

• LG HiMacs countertops

In a former kitchen, I LOVED the counter height window with integrated countertop windowsill.

I don't have a great kitchen (yet), but my favorite thing is my walk-in pantry. Best possible storage choice.

Interesting sum-up thoughts from this thread:

- Spice storage seems to rank #1 on people's list.

- Pull outs for sheet pans/similar seems to be another favorite.

- For as popular as they are, only one person mentioned a Super Susan as a favorite. I would've expected more.

- For all the fuss about countertops here, not a single person listed them as his or her favorite. Maybe we could learn a lesson from this omission and stop torturing ourselves over that detail?

Actually, I included my countertop, LG Hi-Macs. My next kitchen will have the same.

I think the way the question was worded everyone, myself included, was thinking about cabinetry features.

My counters are definitely one of my favorite parts of our kitchen and would have listed them if the wording was different. The naica quartzite we used is beautiful like a marble yet completely indestructible. I've done everything to these counters you are not supposed to do... hot pans, red wine spills over night, lemon juice, hot oil, etc.... We never even sealed it, yet it still looks perfect. We did torture ourselves over choosing the right counters, and it was well worth it.
