Pam - I agree! I was hoping maybe we could cut that streak out for the sink. We need two slabs, so I’m sure they’ll try to use as much as they can.

Don't ""hope" on anything. You need a kitchen layout in YOUR HAND at the stone shop. Where your seams if any will be..... what may or may not be cut out can be shown to you. , And you need TWO slabs. It is not always best to use "as much as they can" unless you are not concerned with the final look in your kitchen.

It is a beautiful stone, but you know it is marble, right? And you know marble's properties--tendencies to etch, chip, etc? Make sure you are able to live with its flaws.

Often, we “fall in love” with a slab and don’t fully understand how it will look cut up. Do you have a large island? The top one would be beautiful on an island. Then do Virginia Mist honed on peripheral counters with plain backsplash. If you want shapes other than subway tiles do Virginia Mist honed on everything. It has the look of soapstone but is granite and much easier to maintain and live with. Also, around here would be less expensive. Post a sketch of kitchen so we have idea of countertops needed. Too much waste on that bottom slab so I wouldn’t use it unless you are willing to pay for it but not use it or could possibly use in powder bath.

@ksc36 thanks thats an excellent idea! The fabricator will give us a few options once we pick.

Yes, we know it’s marble, like I said in my post that’s why we walked away from it, but we kept coming back so I got an unsealed sample to do my worst to. The scratches I can live with, I was worried about staining but the only stain we got was balsamic on a 24 test. Even sharpie cleaned up to almost unnoticeable!

Ok. I would do Virginia Mist granite. Marble will get messed up and while the two of you might be careful, all it takes is someone not thinking setting one bottle of cleaner that leaves mark or a drippy glass of red wine, or lemon juice that floats off the cutting board. But if you are willing to take that risk then up to you.

Thanks for the input, Flo. We almost locked in soapstone, but kept coming back to this, and when the unsealed sample didnt stain from wine or turmeric overnight I was sold.
