The LG WT7100CW is Consumer Reports top-rated and best buy HE top-loader. Washing performance was judged Excellent. It's matching dryer is the LG DLE7100W, also recommended.

We have had or set for four years. They have washed, dried and performed well. The steam is good for releasing wrinkles that have developed in unfolded laundry. There is a common complaint and flaw regarding rust around the bleach dispenser. We rarely use bleach and always wipe down, so it is not from misuse.

We have a LG washer and drier without the agitator. Mine are at least five years old maybe six. The washer has been ok. It cleans clothes, however if you are used to a model with an agitator then don't dump a ton of clothes in there and expect them to come clean. After a few months of ownership I learned that smaller loads on heavy duty are required to get clothes clean to my satisfaction. Clothes that require the delicate setting are cleaned well, however again small loads are the key to using this thing. I could make one load in my old machine and in this one it requires three. I usually separate pants and jeans, shirts and then under garments. Adding towels to the mix is a sure recipe for unclean clothes. I usually make one dryer load out of the separate wash loads though. Then towels, then whites. So I will have five loads of laundry where I used to be able to do three. So much for saving water and energy. The only reason I have not gotten a new washer is to it's credit, it won't break lol. The next one I buy will have an old school agitator. I have gotten around it's limitations, however it is still not an ideal situation IMO. The dryer has performed flawlessly and the only issue I have ever had with the washer is that every now and then it will be unresponsive. Unplugging for a minute has always fixed it.

Note: manufacturers had a difficult time producing washers that washed well as energy standards were made more strict. The performance of an obsolete, 5- to 6-year-old washer (which could have been designed years before) may not tell you much about the performance of a modern one. Also, in Consumer Reports testing, agitator washers performed worse overall than HE models (perhaps indicating where manufacturers are directing their performance-improvement efforts). Finally, the detergent used makes an enormous difference. In CR testing, HE detergents' overall scores ranged from 88 to 33.

Peoples homes are not ideal lab conditions. Consumer reports while helpful is not the end all and be all of consumer goods. Most of the time practical real world experience with a product is more helpful than CR will every be. If they are so interested in helping consumers why does one need a paid subscription to read the articles about the products in question? Oh yes they must get paid for their "unbiased" reviews. Almost every post you author is peddling CR, it would not surprise me if you were an employee.

Hilarious! It costs money to run a lab; buy, and test things. That's why it charges readers.

Consumers cannot perform tests on dozens of products themselves.

Hi @Jaime 7a NY - I'm curious how you're liking your LG front loader so far. I've been eyeing the LG top loader because I don't want to deal with the mold/mildew issues that seem to occur with the front loaders, but it seems like the front loaders clean more effectively, so I'm very torn. Thanks!
