Hard to say what that was, maybe a jungle cactus. I see a spot of green, but most appears to be brown or black, that's dead. It also appears the soil is poor for cacti, a better soil is an average potting soil cut 50-50 with either pearlite or pumice.

Any green that terminates at a tip is good to "restore". Take the cuttings and let them seal for a day or two. Then fill a pot with the soil I specified above, and stand the cuttings cut surface against the soil. You may want to use rocks, tooth picks to hold the cuttings up. Good luck.

This is too etiolated to have healthy tissue...its a type of rebutia that etiolates easily...

They would be lot lot thinner if etiolated and dying , or a lot longer and woodier if healthy...

on top of that, they can take more watering , less sun and bad soil than rebutia, so we would still be seeing something semi healthy.

I agree with Stefan that it is a desert cactus, and actually R. fabrisii, with its cylindrical bodies, which then etiolated, is as good a guess as any. I doubt it has much of a chance, but you can try. Personally, I would pitch it and start over with a new one, but that is me...

You are absolutely right, they are not. I tend to use the term loosely over against epiphytic cacti like disocactus. Terrestrial would have been better, I guess.

gd, even a blind squirrel finds a nut. Foothills of the Andes-cactus is another, but yours works better.
