Deck stairs to patio transition and more ideas!

We are planning to redo our deck stairs that are now listing toward the house and want to connect it to the concrete patio area below. My son started a short stone walk way between the two but never finished it last summer. We're thinking perhaps to widen or fan the stairs out more toward the yard. Also, there are two circular stone areas on either side of the patio area that are now empty because we cut down dying Ash trees. I'm in need of ideas of how to improve these areas and make it look like one cohesive area. What should we do with the now empty tree areas? Any ideas to connect the patio with stone to make the patio area larger? Should we do something different with the stair design or just leave it straight as it is. Looking for thoughts or ideas to make our backyard deck to patio area look attractive and like one design, not pieced together. Thanks for your suggestions and ideas!

1.) I would remove the stones around the two tree areas and fill them with sod. It will give the lawn a more expansive look.
2.) Not knowing your budget, yes do something to make the stairs flow out to the lawn. At least make them wider or fanned as you suggested.
3.). Use the two Adirondack chairs with a fire pit to make a quiet area for sitting. Remove the other furniture.
4.) Lay a simple path from the stairs to the fire pit area, maybe arced to soften the lines.

The above suggestions would be the least expensive to get a more cohesive look.

"Any ideas to connect the patio with stone to make the patio area larger?" What stones you talking about? Does the patio need to be enlarged, and why?

We're only seeing a small portion of the surroundings. If you want things to be like they were more comprehensively planned, I think one would need knowledge of the overall space? Do you have a plan drawing you could submit that shows the back yard?

Yardvaark-I do not have a plan or drawing available. I've submitted a few more photos to give you a better idea of the backyard. Here's a view from the other side of the house coming off the driveway and the rest of the photos are what you'd see walking down to the back then facing the house. Hope these in addition to my first pics helps give a better idea. We are mostly concerned about improving the stairs and connecting it with the patio area and just overall how to make that transition look good with those two areas which no longer have trees. The patio doesn't necessarily need to be bigger, but it seems small in comparison to the deck area. For example when we have friends over to eat on the deck and move down to the patio, space seems a little tight, but that could be a furniture/chair issue. Thanks for your thoughts.

You can widen the stairs if you think it's necessary. If not, at least broaden the landing such that a couple of people could pass each other at that area.

Not sure what's up with the stone walk but if it's going to be difficult to walk on I'd get it fixed right. Or just use concrete. The patio could be enlarged with a concrete border surround. Or, it could be whatever other material you choose for the walk ... brick, or stone, for example.
