Spring is a major growth time for Agaves in CA, so with some water it should improve soon. They don't do much in the winter.

I'm curious - is the White Rhino more difficult to grow, more prone to rot than the Agave victoriae-reginae? I'm really wet in the summers, so I may need to cross this off my wish list. But I have been able to adjust potting mix so my VR is doing well.

I'm not sure. Frankly, I think a lot of it has to be with our frame of mind “its expensive lets baby it” and all this extra care ends up being worse for the plant. Here I have been, dehydrating the poor thing for fear of rot. I am prepared to get over my fear and start watering repeatedly. We are super dry and hot here so it could definitely use extra moisture. I am sure yours would do beautifully potted up under a porch.

J, in this condition after cutting of old dead roots and cleaning up the plant, I usually dip the whole plant in fungicide solution for a good while and dry it up. ( Using a fan will be faster) OR I dapped some cinnamon powder on the roots.

Than repot in dry mixed. ( Make sure the pot is sanitize be for used)

Dog, your white rino is amazing!!! I want one but is too expensive here a small pup with 3 leaves top to 100+ $. :(

Ycloh, yours certainly looks variegated to me. Nice white variegation, too. I've seen a lot of variegated ones that have more of a light green/yellowish variegation.
