Forgive my ignorance, is wall to wall carpeting common in Victorians? We have a lot of Victorian era homes here, one of the most common iterations of old home I’d guess, but none in my recollection had wall to wall carpet? I am not 100 per cent confident I could spot a Victorian piece of furniture from other styles, but your cabinet (green) doesn’t look Victorian to me? When I think Victorian, I think of an overload of pattern (wallpaper, rugs, uphostery, drapes) and layer upon layer of knick knacks, tchotchkes and hand crafted whatnots. Also fussy plants like ferns and an interest in nature, botanical prints, organic styles, taxidermy etc. and items sourced through travel.

Which do you want to be the star of the room? The carpet or the furniture? If you want the furniture to star, choose a plain single-color carpet. If you want the carpet to star, choose a highly patterned carpet like the one shown. The highly patterned carpet will upstage the furniture. It's a matter of personal preference.

OK not trying to be a snob, if you are trying to replicate an historic style.... well wouldn’t you want to consider details such as flooring? But apparently, if I read the article I posted above correctly, it would appear carpeting was sold by the yard. (perhaps as you said, stitched together). I think the whole aesthetic of the Victorian style WAS an overload of pattern.
