Sultry -- I'm not sure which cemetery, but whichever it is, it's apparently on relatively high ground, because Maureen Detweiler, who discovered it, lost her plant in her garden to Katrina ... and was able to replace it with cuttings from the old mother plant which had survived the storm.

Some think this may be 'Pierre de St. Cyr'

And I THINK there are St. Cyr burials in that cemetery, so that might be. I'd think it should do well in FL.

You're well into spring, Jeri, a bit further along than I am here. It shouldn't be long though, with today's temperature at 81 degrees. Love the pup enjoying the garden and the sunshine. Tamalpais is a beautiful and very intriguing tea. I wonder whether it will ever be identified.

New Orleans Cemetary Rose is on my list. I just feel like it would well here. Hmf says its a Bourbon, found rose. So was it actually found in a New Orleans Cemetery? Do we know by which gravesite or any other juicy details?

Thanks Jeri. Yes many cemeteries were flooded badly with even crypts being open and graves moved etc. in Katrina.

We were in very southern Vermilion Parish and flooded during Rita (a month after Katrina) I was out taking photos once the water got down to a couple feet. Our nearest town cemetary has crypts etc moved and ajar. Pretty shocking!

Interestingly, some roses around our town that got 6 ft of water didn't die. I think the standing water was a only week in a half there but still very soggy for several more due to the "gumbo soil" that doesnt drain well.

Re: New Orleans Cemetery rose and Pierre de St.-Cyr : Does New Orleans Cemetery rose have a fragrance? It is listed as strong on the hmf Pierre de St.-Cyr page but no comment about fragrance on the hmf NOC rose page. They sure do look similar.
