Buy the thick black "rubber" ones, I think they are labeled at outlets as being for use with chemicals. You won't have the same dexterity as with thinner ones but then you are going to get poked with anything made of less robust material.

And even these can be penetrated by being used to too firmly grip stems with stout spines like those on Himalayan blackberry or similarly robust rose canes.

Rose gloves are available just about anywhere. Even places like HD or Lowe's carries decent ones. What you want to look for are gauntlet styles so with protection or covering for the whole lower arm. They are usually leather but I have seen some with Kevlar inserts. And typically they will have extra padding in the palm and over the back of the hand....the areas most likely to get jabbed by thorns :-)

I use mine on roses, barberries, blackberries and holly. I even use them when transplating my spikey cacti!

I like my leather rose gloves and sometimes add the rubber palm and finger ones over them. It helps hold them on as they sometimes slip off. Those blackberry spines are terrible and penetrate everything. I've never seen the Kevlar ones.

Hmm, based on what y'all are saying I may need to look for some Rose Tongs.
