It looks like your small shutters are covering up a trim that also pops up along the base & around the garage door - is that correct? In that case, you could totally lose the shutters and not feel a thing.

From there - now you have a good reason for a 2 color scheme, the roof being the 3rd color & the door being anything less dark than it is. Say a faded navy house, white trims, blonde or cherry wood front door door... Or white house, black trims, white at the roof lines where the green is and red door....

We could go on! Basically you have some elements that at least give us clues of what could be highlighted in your paint job.

I think you should do a very light warm gray with white trim like this. The gutters would be painted the trim white and the leaders the color of the stucco. I would do the trim on all of the areas that are raised, such as around the windows, the garage door and the foundation. The columns I would also do in white. The sidelights of the door I would paint white, but the door would be red. The garage door would be the color of the siding.

Do you think we could pull off a color scheme similar to the house below? We would keep the door similar in color and maybe even add some matching brackets under the angled roof lines.

That looks great Randall T! But, I find it very contrasty with that black roof. Your sample pic has a medium grey roof. I much prefer the darker sample from BeverlyFLAdeziner. Her version has less contrast so the colours tend to be more cohesive. BTW, I think your lovely house could benefit from a bit of landscaping. Whatever colour you choose, you house will look good!

Thanks BD! Amen about the landscaping. That is the next project. The home had big, overgrown bushes up against it. We pulled those out, but wanted to paint while we had plenty of space to get to the walls. I have no doubt I'll be back on here looking for landscaping ideas in the not-too-distant future.

I like your color, but I still think the house would look more interesting if you paint the trim a lighter shade. It will be subtle.

I love the colors Beverly chose for your house. Then I noticed the house on the right in your picture seems to be that same color.

I had the same idea as Houssaon above.

Usually fascia board and gutter match the trim on the house or the roof. I thought with your roof being so dark that it needs a dark fascia.

The raised trim around the windows should be painted another color. I would use a color a few shades darker than the body of the house.

I also like the idea of white but I would use a dull white, not a bright white.

Don't add any brackets. Your house is fine as designed. Upgrade things like lights.

For those that like to see the before and after pictures, here you go! We finally got the painting done and are very pleased with the results. As you can see, we ended up going with the white and gray. We also updated the exterior lights and numbers. We're working on a landscaping plan, but added a few flowers and bushes in the interim.
