I grow a few nepeta varieties - Walker's Low, Six Hills Giant, Pool Bank, and Blue Wonder. They are all wonderful. I have divided this plant so many times. I've never grown Select Blue as I haven't seen it offered at the local nurseries. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I'd like to get some of the pink varieties too. Also, I tried growing calamintha (sp?). I think it's from the same family, but I could be wrong. Did not survive our harsh winter. Grew back very sparse. Hope this helps.

I had Six Hills Giant and enjoyed that cultivar. I found Select Blue at High Country Gardens.

Their plants seem a bit sparse based on the reviews so not sure I want to drop the $ based on the number I needd.

The cultviar Montrose White is a good performer in zone 5a.

Are you dividing your plants to simply get more are do you need to so so to keep them looking good?

I planted 3 Little Trudy last Spring and was very happy with them. They bloomed right until frost and I did not have to shear them. Here’s a picture:

With a name like Cat’s Pajamas it would be a travesty if it doesn‘t perform well

I do love conifers! They were all planted in the past 4 years and will take time to fill in, so I’m experimenting with care-free and hardy perennials to fill in my garden beds in the meantime!

Cat’s Pajamas looks like a winner! I love its indigo color and how it blooms from top to bottom. I’ll report back here if I can get it! :)

Hi! I was finally able to get my hands on a Cat’s Pajamas! It was the last one otherwise I would have bought more. Pictures do not do it justice, it’s beautiful and glows from a distance! Here it is, next to my Little Trudy, which is not in full bloom yet, but still, you can see the difference if you look at the picture I posted back in April.

In this picture I’m holding up Little Trudy flowers next to Cat’s, which is a lot more blue. We’ll see how it does over summer, if it splays or needs a haircut to keep on blooming. But so far, I’m super impressed!

Not a Nepeta, but salvia 'Merleau Blue' is very compact for me, just FYI. The dark blue flowers are a great complement of other Nepeta and salvia around it.

I got two 'Select Blue' last year and really liked their tidy habit and long bloom. I declared them a winning plant. And then they both died over the winter, which is unheard of for me. (Zone 4) They had good drainage and had at least 3 feet of snow over them during the serious cold snaps which exceeded the Zone 4 guideline of 20 below.

Anyway, I replaced them with Cat's Pajamas about 3 weeks ago and the new plants are fine, but they have not started growing yet. They look the same as when I planted them.

I might try Select Blue again, but in another spot. It seemed so promising!

UPDATE Needed Please:

I always liked my Walker's Low Catmint but I have a strip of garden in a full sun location that can't accommodate such a large Nepeta. I know there have been several compact Catmints that have been introduced in the past few year eg "Little Trudy", "Purrsian Blue", "Select Blue" etc.

From the descriptions I have read "Cats Pajamas" and "Select Blue" look perfect in terms of size (all else being equal). But it seems that SB isnt as widely available as CP and with 'Karin's' experience...it might not be hardy? And I see in this thread that a few of you did plant CP in 2019. I am just curious how it did even in its first year in your gardens. Has it returned this spring?

I ended up with Junior Walker. Its more of mid sized Nepeta - looks like it will mature to 24" x 16".

I'd expect any others in this size range would be comparable or inferior to this plant based on its vigor and extended blooming without deadheading. Says zone 5 hardiness - I'm in the coldest part of any zone 5 with exceptional winter winds. I see its starting to come up nicely through last years stems.

I just warned them hat winter will be BACK this week with highs in the 30s and lows in the 10s/20s. Give me a break!

We planted six "Cat's Pajamas" in a bit of a sweep in front of a line of boxwood. They didn't grow terribly large the first year, and despite some constant rolling over and biting by their namesake, all six have come back this year, or at least all six show early signs of life.

I ordered two Nepeta Cat's Pajamas from Wayside Gardens, both nice plants but one a little weaker and smaller went into a state of decline for reasons unknown. I gave it a glass garden cloche for protection,(it has been 29°-34° in the evenings in Pittsburgh). I've seen such excellent reviews for this Nepeta Cat's Pajamas that I tried to order more today, and they are mostly sold out, but found some on Grow Joy that will ship this June.

I will report back on their performance over time.

I bought Nepeta Neptune last year and it has a different plant shape, as most of it's blooms are in a cluster at the top, but just gorgeous, and I recommend it.

It's too early to say how Cat's Pajamas fared in Montana this winter. But this week will be warm so I bet I'll know soon. I'll let you know!

Well, I'm happy to report that both of my Cat's Pajamas plants are showing new growth, so I think they made it through the winter. We're in Zone 4, and the coldest part of our winter this year was mid-October, when it plunged into the teens below zero (F). The rest of the winter was pretty easy, although at times the snow over the plants was much thinner than usual.

In that same bed, I think I lost an Iceberg rose, likely a culprit of the October cold snap. Otherwise, everything looks good and normal.

I bought cats pajama's last year and liked them so well I went back for more, sold out but did find them at another nursery or so I thought, they had cat pajama's tags but this year shows they are not CP's

, went back to the second nursery yesterday with pics to find out what the second batch might be, they said walkers low, but, I'm wondering if they are cats meow????? Super pretty but bigger and a totally different animal than my CP's. I will keep them because I think they are pretty but they have crowed out my drift roses(
