I plan to. I built my own. Running an older Canon 30D with a Sigma 17-50/2.8 in a pelican case. Wired to run off a marine battery, and using a standard intervalometer.

Typically a time-lapse like this with a fixed camera will take shots about 3-4 per minute (which results in about 6-8 seconds of run time per hour of construction). This can be varied a considerable bit based on your artistic or other goals.

@Kristin, I had similar plans to your husband. I ran in to a time crunch though and didn't get a drone until the day they began excavation, didn't have time to work with it much, discovered it was misadjusted and needed to be replaced, still had difficulty finding time to learn to use it after I got a replacement, etc. etc. etc. The best laid plans.

I wanted to do this, but my GC was self-conscious about his weight, so I didn't. Maybe I should have set off a camera to go off prior to 6 am and after 5 pm each day? But then again I lost just about every photo I took when my computer died anyway and unfortunately.

Adam - Here is a quick video of the flight path I am using. This is three segments very poorly mixed together. For the final video I suspect I will have about 150 flyover videos all doing the same flight path. To help with the sync I am going to do some frame extraction from the videos and add that to the flight data so I can have an automated blending method. Yup! I just started. I have a GoPro Hero 4 that I am using to do it as well as an external battery.

Jeff! Looks great! Can't wait to see it. I have a 1000ft driveway that wraps around a pond. So my flight plan is more of an approach shot. I haven't seen any of the footage (a friend is using his drone). I imagine I will have no more then 10 flights total to use to make the final video.

Jeff, great video. How is the house coming? Where did you get your background music? I did something similar very quickly for my wife's family but used a bit of a track from Josh Vietti so I'm guessing Youtube would flag it if I put it up.

One issue I found in trying to match clips up from one flight to the next is that I needed a lot more room for zooming in post. I switched to a Mavic 2 Pro (from Mavic Pro Platinum) late last fall and am shooting from further back so I've got more room to work with. I wish I'd done that sooner.

I was doing the same using Litchi & a Mavic Pro Platinum. There was enough variation in the flight (wind, magnetic field, etc.) that I had difficulty matching clips from one to the other. This was about a 20 minute editing job though so hopefully when I get back to it I can spend more time and get the edits much tighter.

I've found the Mavic 2 Pro to do a much better job on reproducing the path from one time to the next but wind will still push it off.

Jeff, just blew through your build thread. Looks like a great project. I use to race Motocross, GP and cars (SCCA and Formula Ford). Some years ago I had to pare down my hobbies and those all went. I miss them and miss working on them. I'm going on 6 years driving Tesla though and loving every second.

opaone - Great video! Indeed the new Mavic 2 has lots of improvements, including a better camera. I suspect that my videos will also have drift in them from wind, etc, so I'll need to do some editing work. Awesome to hear about the cars. It is a fun hobby for sure. The vault is mostly safe room and safe storage, but some wine as well since it will be temperature controlled.

Thanks! Gopros make this too easy as they have built in intervalometers (timer). I think 10 to 20 seconds but have been learning to get by with less, maybe 30 seconds to a minute. Got tons more to edit.

I'm interested in doing long term TLs, like an entire house or seasonal changes but would need a rig similar to mgh_pa, any suggestions for further information?

How long will your GoPro battery/memory last? Can you program it to only take shots during certain hours? Or ideally something like every 20 seconds during the workday, every 3 minutes until after sunset, and then once per hour over night... Or something similar. Or perhaps every 20 seconds when there is movement and every 10 minutes otherwise maybe.

No Gopro in-camera timer programming outside of Time lapse features. Once you push button, that's it. Easy to add portable battery capacity with USB, but would need added rain protection. Would love some hacks for what you describe.

I've used motion activated game cameras for security. Provided supporting evidence for a job-site theft conviction. Don't see why they couldn't be used for TL other than quality. Anyone know of a game camera that shoots high quality RAW files and capable of daily timer?
