We turned a wonky little closet in our dining room into a liquor/glass cabinet.

Liquor is at the bottom for easy access by our dogs. ;-)

We have several areas dedicated to liquor and no, we don't drink all that much -- we have way more than a lifetime supply of liquor -- drinking liquor is on a marble topped sideboard in the living room -- handy if we have guests we can pour them a drink!!! Wine is in the breakfast room. (not sure why because we don't drink alcohol for breakfast -- LOL!); there is a shelf in the larder for cooking spirits (all full strength regular bottles of booze) and then there is the basement -- with the wine cellar and other assorted bottles that we don't have room for upstairs but that we can go down and get if need be. We used to own a liquor store so we're well stocked! LOL!

Suebe20 - I love your setup. I wish I had a small closet or pantry in my kitchen. In my next house I will not have any upper cabinets at all. Everything will be stored in a pantry.

Martha Scott - That explains it. That last sentence. LOL

Get the rhino! But don’t put it on a shelf. Leave it on the counter....it could be the new “towel pig”.

traci_from_seattle - I am planning on going to Zgallerie today. I hope they have one as both the Zgalleries in my town are closing. But if they still have it, a bonus will be that both stores have marked everthing 50% off. Otherwise I will have to order online. This morning I was thinking about that rhino and thought the countertop might be nice. You confirmed it!

LOL Christinero. I am still chugging along. Dont you see the blue painters tape in the photo? I am SLOW. Really I cant believe how slow I am. I have been working on these cabinets for almost 6 weeks I think. I still have a number of things to do, including 6 doors and 2 drawers and a gazillion odds and ends. Then I can kiss my honey oak goodbye forever! Here is a tiny snapshot of a spot that is almost done and another of a spot that is in the works.

What will take the longest to complete is the wall with the stove because I have the 4" backsplash to remove. Then I will have to fix the wall underneath. But the big thing about that wall is my mural goes into that backsplash so I will have to do some edits to it. That will take a bit of time.

Haha, I didn't notice the tape, was looking at the rhino!

Well, it's a big job and it's turning out just lovely.

I am a bit slow, too, been painting my walls for about 2 weeks, now.

I LOVE the rhino and the kitchen update! It is looking so great. I am super impressed. I think those shelves are looking perfect. :)

Christinero - Projects taking longer than you planned. I totally get it.

I think my dh is really diggin the cabinets. After its all done and I am in search of the next thing to do I will start planting the seed for epoxy countertops. LOL

justwantapool - Thanks! I am working on that blog too. Setting it up is kinda slowing me down a bit.

Epoxy countertops will look awesome with your "new" cabinets.

I don't know why DH's fight us when we first have these great ideas. Just say yes and let the magic begin sooner LOL

Penny - I have 6 extra cabinets taking up space in my garage you could have. LOL

I didnt remove cabinets from the wall with mural but the 4" backsplash does cut into it. I will have to do some work on the mural after I remove the backsplash from that wall.

Do you have any room in your kitchen? Those extras could be pantry storage if you stack 2...I must have remembered the mural wrong...I thought she was hiding behind some uppers. Brain farts, I guess...

That mural is everything, friday. I implore you to do your darndest to keep it! :D Your kitchen is coming along beautifully. You inspire me so much. (That rhino is looking as fierce as you.)

For our new build the liquor is in a cabinet shelf above the roll out drawers.; but I suspect I may change that once I bring up the 2 case's of booze that is down in the shop & I shall be "selective" on what stays from those boxes, even though I did pair it down when I was packing things up from the previous house. Bar cart, like that idea may have to have a "lookie around" when hubby is off helping his brother move the boat for 10 days to see what I may find. I do have a glass table that I have used it the past when we used to have the company Christmas party & I have also used the top of the side board as well as the kitchen island at the other house>> If we did do a large party here I suspect I would use one of the counter area or the island here.

I am kind of wanting that rhino too! I love him. He needs a name. Or maybe she's a she. yes! probably a she!

Penny - the mural is still behind upper cabinets, just not the ones on the wall in the photo I posted. The mural is on the wall with the stove. I would love to get rid of all the upper cabinets but that wouldnt exactly be practical ;-) This summer I will clean out the garage and hang the cabinets there for extra storage.

Tartanmeup - I could start calling my kitchen the Black Rhino but that might sound a little too much like an ED medication. LOL

Cheryl - A lot of damage could be done in 10 days with the hubby away but it sounds like you will have tons of space for a bar.

Pool - the best thing about that Rhino is it was 50% off. I had to search for it in the store as most items were in boxes and not displayed. I had to read the labels and I think I got the last one in the store. Otherwise I would have had to order online and pay full price.

Sueb20 - Zgallerie is closing in Chicago. They have two stores here. Everything at those two stores is 50% off in store only. If there is a Zgallerie near you, you could check and see if they are closing and if so, go pick it up so you can get the discount. I went to both the Chicago stores today and found it.

Glad you got your rhino. He looks great with your black cabinets! Mascot for my former job in sales was the rhino. When times get tough, put your head down and "rhino through". I have one on my desk to remind me of that even though I'm retired.

I wonder if the one near me is closing. The West Elm in the same location area closed down last spring/summer. I think the rent got too nuts for them and a couple other stores. Maybe ZG will follow suit.

Pool - The ones here were in very high rent areas. They had everything 30% off a few weeks ago and now nearly everything is gone. They have a few sofas and chairs but mainly artwork and accessories. I really like some of their stuff. I purchased my sofas from them a few years ago. I would have loved to have found a throw blanket. They are $150 online I think. But they were all sold out when I got there today.

I may go check it out tomorrow. I have about an hour to waste between a couple things. I'll let you know if I see her sister :-D

We have a few bottles of vodka, rum, amaretto, etc. above the refrigerator in the kitchen. One of my passions is the "brown water" (bourbon & rye). Those have their own special place downstairs.

I think most of you MUST be Irish! Penny knows this but Christmas Pudding is just a very wet Christmas Cake. With a bit more alcohol. Granny made enough for all of her kids and neighbors hence the bathtub. My dad went to do The Taste before anything was cooked, my mom would roll her eyes and I was NOT allowed to do the same. All of that alcohol needs TIME to soak in. And a huge YES on the marzipan and the hard white icing for the cake. Auntie Eileen was the Christmas Cake maker, she passed away two days AFTER Christmas two years ago. Yes, she made her cake that year too. I have been known to use whiskey for the trifle when the sherry ran out. Along with angel food cake and jello (only in America). Penny, do you remember " hundreds and thousands"? So many memories.

Gosh, Louise you have a good memory! I haven't heard that term since I was about 10 and had forgotten they were called that! But yes, and then by boxing day all the color had dissolved into the cream making it look a bit...diseased :)

No wonder we, across the pond, have a reputation for not-very-good food...None of this sounds appetizing at all :) But...it's different now and there's some good stuff over there. Just don't think about the steak and kidney pie...

I have a hand me down wine rack for reds (looks like something that probably came from Pier One), a wine fridge my brother no longer needs (he bought a house with it's own walk in wine cooler) in which I keep white wine and non-alcoholic ciders).

The hard stuff is in the sideboard in the dining area. Along with various canned goods in the other half.

I sure miss my mom's cooking. Not so much for the food, mostly for the fun. Potatoes, Bisto gravy and minced meat, sometimes with onions, and mushy peas, our (midday dinner) at least twice a week. Oh, and Birds custard with stewed apple. That was a luxury.

I was very anemic as a child so liver was often made for me. I preferred that to sheeps hearts or kidney. Offal was very common for poorer families like ours. But we never went hungry. And I am forever thankful when my refrigerator is well stocked.

Christinero, ilikefriday & pennydesign, thinks for the comments. You can party at my house anytime. I buy it to drink, not to just display.

The piece behind the bar is an old dresser we bought for our daughters room while she was in college. She didn't need it anymore and it was just sitting around. I thought it might make a good back bar so I just took out the bottom two drawers and laid in some stained wood to store bottles. I think it's pretty cool too.
