Ideas needed for this fireplace/mantle.

About to move into a new house with a fireplace/mantle that we are not fans of. Any ideas? We are thinking a TV will go above, but that’s all we’ve got so far. We don’t like the stone but not sure if it would look better all dry walled or replaced with brick? Should the mantle go across the whole wall? What kind of mantle? Thanks in advance!

I don't think this contemporary fireplace requires a mantel. Here's a concept.

Do you know if that drywall is layered on top of the fireplace? You may have to rip it out. I never seen this done before but maybe have the stone white washed and smear it but I would have a mantle going across the whole wall.

First take that mantle off it doesn't belong there. Is the rock flush with the drywall or is the rock recessed somewhat?

Thanks! Yes-we are taking that mantle down no matter what. The rock is set back a couple inches from the drywall. We don’t think the rock continues up behind the drywall, though.

I’m not in love with the rock wall, but the rock floor is kinda cool?? Hard to tell from the photo. I’d get a cool tile that coordinates with the rock floor and do a tile surround and lose the rock wall. And some rustic wood shelves or cabinets?

Perhaps drywall the bottom part and put mantel length of wall with some shelving. Change the hearth with tiles

Put thin facing brick over the stone. Put a veneer that matched the mantel wood over that white strip. The TV will be at a much more comfortable viewing height it if goes to the right or left of the fireplace (?on a swing arm?). There’d still be room for art on that wall.

Take down the mantel. You would have a clean look. You may not need anything else.

Big improvement. Although the horrible mismatched stumpy mantel was...memorable?
