What is your watering regimen? How often and for how long do you water?

Have you applied any fertilizer in the past year? If so when and what kind?

Have you applied any herbicide, insecticide, or fungicide in the past year? If so when and what did you use?

Moss grows for any of these reasons - soil is compacted and low in nutrients, drainage is poor and the soil stays wet (drought can have a similar impact), excessive shade or soil pH is out of whack (too acidic or too alkaline). All the same reasons turf grasses are unable to thrive. You can use Moss Out or any other moss removal product for a quick fix but it will be temporary at best until you address and correct the underlying conditions.

Lawn care practices can influence moss development as well.

@ dchall_san_antonio I just bought the house last year and the there is no sprinkler system which could probably mean wasn't watered enough prior to that.. but can't say. I watered it twice a week. Plenty of trees around so there are areas where there is no sunlight. Could that be a possible reason? I have no idea.

gardengal48 (PNW Z8/9) - I used Moss out once and it doesn't seem to have done the work. I will probably need to have my soil checked out.

Moss Out for Lawns generally works very fast when applied according to directions......typically just a matter of hours before the moss turns black and is dead. You still need to rake it out, however.
